Santo Domingo.– The increase in malaria cases could be linked to the January 12 earthquake in Haiti, Dominican health authorities said Friday.
According to Deputy Health Minister Jose Rodriguez Aybar, there have been 1,644 cases so far this year. That's about 200 more than the average for an entire year.
Dominican Medical Council epidemiologist Clemente Terrero said heavy rains could be a factor. But he also cited an influx of migrants from Haiti, where malaria is more prevalent.
Thousands of Haitians crossed the border after the quake seeking work and shelter, and the incidence is highest near the border.

Dominican habit of leaving around old tires and other nesting materials never helped either.
you remained calm and have not flipped !
I guess its so obvious I didn't even have to mentioned it :.
Today they cleaned the sewer filters around my way and it was disgusting at least 10 feet of garbage stacked up and 10 feet wide, m;y question is why wait so long to clean up. ADN waits for these type of situations to start a clean up campaign. They should to a course on what we call preventive maintenance.

gee i wonder why = is it because we domincans spew garbage evey where!
well me need to throw our garbage somewhere or any where, expect in the trash cans....why should we? we are a free country and we can do anything we feel like doing.
many times it goes in the rivers. and the beaches why not we like to do obnoxious-things. as one friend said to me a few weeks ago after his 1st trip to the dr. he said danny why in every empty lot i pass in the taxi i was in the lots where full of garabge?.... what could i tell him.also ask me why so many guys piss in the streets and on the roads in plain view for all to see?
my answer was u where in la- la land where nothing is for real.
said his 1st and last trip to this country the dr.
and on the wrong side of the road...
again my answer was u where in
la- la land.
and every night the trash is cleared from the streets.
its a great country.

I fear the lowering of wages for poor domincans more than the maleria the haitians brings... A few cases in the year versus the thousands of dominicans who are forced to immigrate.
Haitians bring nothing positive to the DR....
