Santo Domingo. - A surge in the Dominican Air Force’s electrical system took the modern radar bough in Israel out of operation, when the bank of batteries that power it installed two weeks ago underwent a failure.

The technicians who installed the equipment had warned the Air Force that the system which feeds energy to the base had to be changed or face the risk of a high voltage. “The radar system is out of service because a high voltage damaged the Control Panels in the battery bank. It was in operation for two weeks since its installation,” said an official source quoted by newspaper El Dia.

The Israeli company Elta System LTD delivered the radar to the Armed Forces Ministry in July and immediately installed it. “That equipment started operation on August 22 but by September 1, in hours of the afternoon, it was already out of service,” the source said, adding that technicians recommended changing San Isidro Airbase’s electrical system because it’s obsolete.

what else is new ?this is just hilarious. a bunch of nincompoops trying to operate 21st century machinery. the majority probably do not know how to instal batteries in a flashlight, but, they are good and loyal party supporters, so Leonel would trust them with a nuclear submarine.

i realise that it goes beyond LF. sadly , it has not changed during his tenure. and, no, it is not funny. a day must come in which there is a search for COMPETENCE. giving no show jobs to friends and concubines is one matter. giving sensitive jobs to chimpanzees is another. taxpayers get to replace the equipment evaporated by power surges, simply because the jackasses who are running the equipment do not know the difference between a frying pan and a cellphone charger.

that is how i feel about the third world, in general. not just the caribbean, but shitholes like latin america, and places like the philipines. so, you can consider eschewing your tired old gambits, trying to pit me against dominicans. divide and conquer was great when your ancestors owned slaves. you do not, or, at least, should no aspire so to do.

gmiller, you might be on to something, there. maybe it is not a case of incompetence, after all. maybe an important shipment of hallucinogens was in the pipeline, and someone got paid off to sabotage the radar. you are on the ball, as usual.

FREAKIN PEANUT GALLERY..!!!! One more embarassing moment for the people of the dominican republic.....(:-{

Another fine example of the lack of education in the governing body of the dominican republic. This is not a 10,000USD equipment, its worth a whole lot more....... A price can't be put on the security of the dominican republic. I can only imagine the expression given to the Tech after explaining the outcome of not updating the system...(he must have been waved off and told TA TOH, YaYaYa ya vamanos!!!! ...quesonla doce)......

Incompetence is unacceptable or the lack of......!!!!!!! This is the perfect time for some KEELHAULING with a cruselinner rittled with barnacles....

Guys :
When a country sells an aquipment to another knowing dam well that the surge suppressors are not up to date ,then either fix it yourself for a price or lose the warrantee as it is done in the USA,or don't install same. Bad faith in the part of ISRAEL thinking of a better and more juicy contract is immoral, knowing before hands the DR airforce is incompetent to upkeep the equipment functional as it was said (CHIMPS). So why take advantage of the CHIMPS?

wonder how much was paid to allow this condition to continue before it fried. There should be some Ex officers looking for employment after this. Stupidity breads and evident here
