Santo Domingo.- The deputy and presidential candidate of the minor pro-government coalition party FNP yesterday discarded Amnesty International’s complaint that undocumented Haitians are being repatriated en mass, an action he affirms only looks to pressure the Dominican Republic.

Pelegrín Castillo said it’s strange that the organization based in London hasn’t rebuked what he calls the international community’s carelessness and irresponsibility with the Haitian crises.

“When I see Amnesty International in that predicament denouncing the position of irresponsibility of a series of countries which must have a more serious commitment with Haiti, then I’m going to have some respect for that denunciation,” the lawmaker said.

He reiterated his call to bolster the checkpoints at the border, to halt the continued increased of undocumented Haitians in the country.

Castillo also denounced that Dominican consulates in Haiti are “massively” issuing visas. “Thousands and thousands of visas are being granted.”

The deputy for the National District added that Dominican consulates in the neighboring nation instead of applying a restrictive visa policy, do the opposite, providing the document to thousands of Haitians.

Sr. Castillo is on point. Amnesty International has discredited itself as a viable voice in this instance. A I should walk around DR and look to help DR. Hope Sr. Castillo's future is bright and untarnished. I wish him the best!!

Amnesty International is a complete joke. The earthquake in Haiti was almost a year ago and all these non profit organizations have done little to help Haiti. If they really cared they would have made more of a difference making sure the goods being brought in were used properly. I consider the UN the biggest problem not doing enough for Haiti. They should be enforcing peace and have oversaw the relief efforts to make sure everything ran properly. Also they should have made sure a newly elected government was properly created. Watching and monitoring the polls and making sure every legal vote was correctly counted. If they did that maybe people would have a little more respect for them.

They like to stick their opinion in but they don't want to really do the work and make sure things are done right.

Amnesty International should shut the hell up. They don't have a clue about what they are talking about. Dominicans worldwide need to protest this infringement on our sovereignty.

Good job Pelegrin.

This is not simple and moderate "illegal immigration". What is happening is a sistemic invasion of Dominican Republic by a foreign population.

The funds were to be released after the election took place.

It did, there are fights over who won, and the faucets are still closed.

There must be a lot of competition as to who will manage the funds, and in the meantime, Haiti is still without a government.

As it has been since the passing of François Duvalier.

Amnesty International’s needs to stay out of this one, this is a big problem for DR,and it citizens.

But as far as Dominican people them self, I have to say that the problem with the Haitian today it

was cause because some of our own people din't care and the corruption with theborder agent

that for a few buck's let the Haitian in. So now don't complaint about the problem instead ask the

Goverment to Fix it. Its really sad that because some fews bad Dominicans, now the entire country had to pay the consecuency.

Finally, we need more law makers and politicians to defend DR when accusations like these happen, the country wouldn't be so pressured if more men like Mr. Castillo spoke out.

uncle sam seems forever to turn its back on the haitians, as do many other countries, but when u look at the total hugh picture u can not really blame any of the other countries as one can not place blame on the dominican repbublic.- we are talking about building up from scratch one whole country.
thats a hugh unertaking for any one or even if many countries banned together this hugh or even bigger then hugh.task

I have some hope restored, but I'm not jumping the gun just yet. Between the government actively repatriating Haitians and outright condemning foreigners like Amnesty International for complaining of such actions it's a step in the right direction.

I can't believe all these foreign hypocrites have the nerve to point their finger.
