A Border Security Corp soldier walks toward the gate of the Haiti town, Anse-a-Pitre, next to Pedernales.

Pedernales, Dominican Republic.- Since yesterday Monday the Government has discretely deployed Border Security Corp (Cesfront) and Army troops in the Enriquillo military post located in this southwest border town, which local media report as a precautionary measure in the wake of the arrival of former dictator Jean Claude “Baby Doc” Duvalier to Haiti.

A source quoted by listin.com.do said the soldiers assigned to the 21st Company have been restricted to base to prevent any situation in the border zone arising from Duvalier’s surprise visit, adding that the decision was taken once the former tyrant arrived on Sunday

Meanwhile the Dominican-Haiti market was held yesterday with heightened safety measures to prevent the inflow of cholera, and despite the new situation in their country, the Haitians hawked their wares normally in an ambience of calm.

Could someone explain what all this fuss about Baby Doc's arrival and suppose "destabilization of the DR" nonsense. How is his arrival in Haiti a cause for alarm in DR?

I wonder if leo still thinks its a good idea to invest 30million USD of dominican funds on a hatian university instead of dropping it in the dominican school system.

A lot of the old Tonton Macoute would like to see things go back to what they were back in the day.

Also, lots of old accounts to settle.

Could provoke some unrest, even panic in some circles.

Preval was mayor of PAP durind Baby Doc tenure.

Who knows what's'in the making??

Atabey,

Baby doc, and Aristide would be next to each other, supporter on both side, civil unrest, maybe civil war,,,,,what you think the refugee are going start going if that come to past,,,,that is why you need the troop at the border, just in case...the shit hit the fan, you want to be ready

Baby Doc's presence might stir up the hornets' nest even more.

It's hard to be believe but the government is trying to be proactive.

The Dominican Republic has nothing to fear with Duvalier's return to Haiti. I dont know what the big fuzz is about, although the DR needs to guard the border just like its doing. Everything that happens in Haiti is bad news, and i also congradulate the governent for its efforts to expell illegal Haitians in the country.

A dictatorship was exactly what kept Haiti stable.

During the Papa Dock reign,Haitans actually had a state and had no need to go anywhere else.

Papa Dock was a brutal dictator, but if you take a look at the history of Haiti, the only thing ever present is violence and treachery.
