NEW YORK. – Thousands of Lawrence, Mass. residents want mayor William Lantiagua out of office alleging he hasn’t done anything to benefit their city, which has unleashed a confrontation between the petitioners and Dominican groups which support their countryman.

In a document with more than 5,000 signatures his opponents say Lantigua, the first Latino to hold the post after being elected in November 2009, has allowed an inertia which has led to significant increase in crimes and a lack of public safety.

They also complain of mismanagement in education, Massachusetts’ highest unemployment at nearly 17%. They say Lawrence needs a new leader who can urgently save it from the situation Lantigua has caused.

Lantigua could face a voter recall and one of his most staunch critics, Pentecostal church reverend Edwin Rodriguez, said the signatures send the mayor a powerful message of enough already.

Typical Dominican politico. Gets elected purely for the money and prestige the job brings!
Oh wait, this not a "job", is it? It's a "position" because if it were, he'd have to actually do something!

He first must wipe the smirk off his face, if he wants people to take him serious......

Nevertheless, no surprise the City of Lawrence, Massachusetts is one of the only few cities where there a predominate latino population with the majority Dominican.

So how do you think Dominicans elect their government officials?

Lawrence Massachusetts is and was one of the most dangerous places on earth way before this moron took office. I don't know how he dared run for office when he knew he would not fix anything in a broken city such as this one.

Typical DR moron!!

While Lawrence may not be exactly wonderlandy but by no means it should be considered the most violent. That is an exaggeration. It is slightly higher and comparable to Mass state crime rate.

Lawrence, MA Profile

Lawrence, MA, population 70,579, is located in Massachusetts's Essex county, about 9.3 miles from Lowell and 23.1 miles from Cambridge.

Through the 90's Lawrence's population has grown by about 3%. It is estimated that in the first 5 years of the past decade the population of Lawrence has declined by about 1%. Since 2005 Lawrence's population has stayed about the same.

Lawrence's property crime levels tend to be higher than Massachusetts's average level. The same data shows violent crime levels in Lawrence tend to be higher than Massachusetts's average level.

Recently, a sharp reduction in violent crime starting in 2004 and massive private investment in former mill buildings along the Merrimack River, including the remaining section of the historic Wood Mill – to be converted into commercial, residential and education uses – have lent encouragement to boosters of the city. One of the final remaining mills in the city is Malden Mills. Additionally, Lawrence's downtown has seen a resurgence of business activity as Hispanic-owned businesses have opened along Essex Street, the historic shopping street of Lawrence that remained largely shuttered since the 1970s. In June 2007, the City approved the sale of the Intown Mall, largely abandoned since the early 1990s recession, to Northern Essex Community College for the development of a medical sciences center.

If I am not mistaken I heard that the mayor of Passaic, NJ Alex Blanco, who I believe is Dominican as well, is also having a lot of trouble with the Latino community. Supposedly he did not pay his taxes and his car was repossessed, although he is some type of doctor. I think already there is a wealthy Dominican businessman preparing to challenge him in the next election.

I met him a few years ago when Mike Sullivan was the Mayor; (Mike was so cool for an Irish-Italian.) Lantigua didn't seem like he was Mayor material when I saw him; Also, my folks who know him din't like the guy (way back then).

A few week ago, I asked how he was running things now that he's the Mayor, and the low down they gave me about 'em wasn't too positive. There you have it the first of our kind and he turns out to be a petit dictator. I've heartd from people of Lawrence that right out the gate he's become a Manda-mas of the worst kind. The cops, the city's govenment staff are all up in arms.
With friends like him who needs enemies? Another Lilis, Mini-Trujillo.

Lawrencer is a dump. Almost every Dominican arrested with drugs driving north on 95 is headed to Lawrence. That city needs a leader with vision, not a do nothing mayor looking to take care of himself.

Who ever down voted my post, please give me statistics to prove Lawrence is the worst most most "dangerous places on earth."

I did not say it was perfect and that it did not have a crime problem, but we got to be fair and call it what it is, not make it worse then what it is supposed to be
