If the Government had not tried to 1) take advantage of cheap Haitian labor without any type of documentation, foresight and responsibility, 2) turned a blind eye on the corruption in CESFRONT and 3) tried to handle it lazily by retroactively applying laws, the problem would not be where it now is. Now both the Haitian and Dominican Governments hav to work together to try and control the issue.

It's so interesting to see how so many people will say things that clearly offensive and sometimes clearly racially motivated comments, but yet whenever somebody even REMOTELY says anything about racism in the Dominican Republic they are also the same ones to say "no hay racismo aqui!" etc. If you don't agree with Sonia Pierre or like her position that's one thing but calling her "fea" is only showing a deep seated attitude toward what she represents to some people. On THIS very site I have seen countless times where Haitians are called monkeys, dirty, ugly, sick, backwards, etc. But yet there are still some people who seem to be so shocked when somebody outside the Dominican Republic says that some people are in denial about racial issue being a problem. They might not say those offensive things themselves but how many ever attempt to correct their fellow Dominican. who is giving his Country a bad name?? Sad to see....

If they are to be sent back, then do so. Dont allow them to cross the border without the proper documentation. But as long as there is someone out there trying to make dos o tres chelitos mas, they are going to continue to "overun" the country.
