LA ROMANA, Dominican Republic. – Retired Army general Rafael Percival Peña, father of the Army lieutenant arrested in connection with the theft of a twin engine plane from the Airport at Higuero (AILI), defended his son’s integrity and called the case a "brutal persecution" against him. "It’s an abuse because of the position which I have taken against the corrupt Government and this system."

Interviewed by phone on La Romana radio station 107.5 FM, the retired officer revealed that his son John Percival Matos doesn’t work in the terminal around 3:30am Sunday the plane was stolen, property of the Puntacana group. "The one they need to look for is me, because I am in fact an airplane pilot; he (his son) is a helicopter pilot."

Percival Peña said on September 23 he was the victim of an ambush in which two vehicles participated, a case he affirms was denounced to Military Intelligence J-2. “In the letter I blame the president of the Republic and that hasn’t been investigated."

He said the incident occurred two days after having been informed, in the presence  the political leader Luis Acosta Moreta (El Gallo), the journalist Jhonny Alberto Salazar and  the priest Rogelio Cruz, that they were going “to cut out his and the latter’s tongue.”

The authorities say two Venezuelan pilots paid Percival Matos 350,000 dollars to help them sneak into AILI Airport.

Seems someone had the keys to everything and knew the proper procedures. A helicopter pilot would know this as would a airplane pilot. From the picture the Air Force must have some wide bodied planes.

"defended his son’s integrity "

Yea, with our transparent corruption entitlement mentality, this is not a crime.... We are allowed to this, we do not have to take responsibility for our actions. We are not smart enough to do that.

First lookup what integrity means you moron and you will find you and your son do not have it

Has anyone notice that not one time has someone been caught with a dufflebag full of money in any of the airports entering DR. There must be a serious kingpin well rooted in the country with deEEEEEP pockets to fund these operations.... Either our government is dumb as a box of nails or they are in on it .....which one is it?

Papa doesn't realize that his Son never needed to pilot the plane, he just needed to help the other two pilots sneak into the airport and get access, so his "he's a helicopter pilot" excuse is irrelevant. Junior's wife looks to be connected, his Brother In-Law looks the same....I wonder what probability it is that the Father is also??? And if he is innocent, his Son is about to bring a lot of shame to his name.

Everyone always point their finger to the other guy whenever the S@#T hits the fan in the DR!!! The controllers say they weren't responsible because they don't control security at the airports, yet, once that plane left terra firma and became airborne, it BECAME THEIR RESPONSIBILITY to report the unplanned flight to the proper authorities IMMEDIATELY after spotting it on radar! Therefore, they should be held accountable as well!!!

Oh right I didn't get my fair share so I call for a probe into corruption? How did your son become a pilot or even get into the military?

Point is rather than help in the investigation of the theft to clear his son he is taking shots at the president. This is one poor aspect of the culture, a lack of personal good ethics as nobody takes any responsibility for bad behavior when it is quite obvious they are the culprit. It is always the other guy's falt.
