Official cites massive deportation of aliens by the US
Santo Domingo.- A Catholic Church Archbishop as well as the Immigration Agency director yesterday rebuked U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s statements Wednesday on Dominican Republic’s treatment of Haitians, and asked Washington to practice what it preaches by doing more for the impoverished country.
Santiago archbishop Ramon de la Rosa y Carpio asked the U.S. government to provide more funds to help Haiti, instead of “washing its hands blaming the Dominican Republic of violating Haitians’ rights and pressing the country to bear responsibility of immigration which is the Haiti Government’s problem and not of the Dominicans."
Immigration Agency director Jose Ricardo Taveras said the country is more concerned with the Haitians and Haiti than the international community and the nation Clinton represents, by irresponsibly leaving the problem’s burden entirely on Dominicans.
Taveras said he agrees with U.S. Homeland Security secretary Janet Napolitano’s position of conducting deportations en masse to guarantee her country’s national security.
“What I truly believe is that the Secretary (Clinton) was induced to the error, because here there’re no nationality problems. The Dominican Constitution is very clearly who are Dominicans and who are not. Here what there is, is a problem of an irregular immigration.”

Big Powers like the USA tell little powers like the DR: "Do as I say, not as I do." But little powers do have agency and can make things difficult for Great Powers to meet their overall Geo-strategic interests. And the USA is chiefly concerned with the State and Nation of Haiti being stabilized above all else so as to prevent DE-stabilization throughout the region-and Florida in Particular-from Haiti's total discombobulation should it explode into total chaos. And this possibility is real, especially after the earthquake of 2010.
DR needs to defend its position with clarity and confidence. DR harbors no ill will towards Haiti and her people, DR only defend its National Interests with regards to the massive population shifts occurring on the island of Hispaniola. DR has never invaded or had designs to take over any part of Haiti; indeed historically speaking it has been the DR that has LOST territory to Haiti!
Stand tall and strong and defend your position!

Too many illegals in DR. I can not sleep at night, they talk too loud at all hours of the night. They always hang out in large groups and get very loud. Do they not sleep???

i agree , however it is not anyone responsiblity to take care of the Haitians and Haiti , its the responsibility of the Hatian govt , those theives will always be beggars. Clinton is a two faced fool, and liar. However thats beyound the point here. The Hatians need return to Haiti, period.... they need to learn to do for themselves and stop this global begging and expectation that the world must do for them , in the end please , get them the hell out of the DR , have we forgotern what they did to these people just a 80 years or so ago ....did they consider that ... burn Hati for what I care , we will never forget the truth

Archbishop De la Rosa y Carpio has a set of man's pants beneath the catholic togas, unlike most of our "vende-patria" do nothing politicians.
The Dominican constitution is very clear on who can be a citizen and who can not, unlike the US constitution that allows for jus soli, Ms. Clinton knows that very well, but chooses to ignore the fact.
Instead of prodding others to do their dirty work, why doesn't the US give one million one time work visas, to the "poor" Haitians that reside illegally in DR, or better than that, give one million visas to DR citizens that are unemployed and displaced because of the same Haitian illegals.

Generoso,
I see you're warming up to the idea of massive out migration as one pillar of the solution to this perennial problem facing us Dominicans on the island. The DR leadership and people need to present these and other possible pillars to this never ending population pressure to the international community. They will never present them because they have already made decisions that contain the problem within the island itself. DR needs to resurrect other possible measures to deal with this massive problem.

DR should imitate US and build a wall or fence on the Haitian border like US does with the Mexican border.

I am only warming up to the concept, as a pragmatist the materialization of mass immigration is politically impossible, and just a wet dream.
It would be as you say: a discombobulation, a word that is seldom used by sane writers, lol.

Correct pimento45.
Have nationals volunteer labor and materials to the construction of such an enterprise. Call it the Patriot Wall or how about the Peace Wall? No need to flash it in the news or anything, just do it!

A few years ago I had a very successful thread in the "Forum" section, that called for building a wall, or other types of natural and artificial barriers along our DR border with Haiti, and had great favorable response from 90% of the respondents.
Many who oppose it were Haitians of course, crying "uncle", racism, discrimination, and every other conceivable description against building that partition, because it will put a damper to just walking at their leisure into DR territory and using our infrastructure, hospitals, schools, transportation, utilities, as well as taking jobs away from our own Dominican citizens that needed them also, by working for less money.
Curiously, some powerful Dominicans involved in government, construction, and agribusiness fervently opposed such a measure, and I even got death threats from them, because that wall would slow illegal migration, and would reduce their profits, because Haitians work for a lot less than a Dominican would.

According to the papers at human right there are 477 families or individual!! that are born in DR from illegal parent. i have no problem giving those people paper to live and work in DR,,but here is the consent:
Out those 477 how many of those have cousin and neighbors in haiti that are preparing to jump the border and follow the example of 477. this is the same scenario that have populate the US with million of Hispanic, Jose move to the USA and in two generation the whole town where Jose came from move to the state, that will happen in DR as well.
Only if Haiti was locate like 2000 mile away, why not give them paper, Haiti is next door and with increase transportation you could travel from punta cana to cap Haitian in a couple of hours.
Let them have some resident card and prevent them from exporting family and friend, they descendant can them claim full Dominican citizenship in due time.

Yea I think we should build a wall and I also think the US is full of shit. They do close to nothing to help the Haitian people, if anything the US is part responsible for Haiti's current economic situation. The DR. has only helped economically, but they want us to do more "FUNK YOU" how about you do more USA. However, the DR. does have racism against NEGGAS, I know, cause I'm a NEGGA. Anyway does any body know what the constitution say regarding who isn't and who is a Dominican???

The Archbishop made some good points, but unfortunatly he also needs to talk about the rampant corruption in the arm forces and all the people involved in enforcing the laws, la frontera always been a cash cow for alot of generals and coroneles que se jartan de cuarto traficando haitianos, drogas, armas, carbon, carros hasta chinos y cubanos.

On the subject of border control Sweet Mickey is your best bet from the Haitian side for his plan to reconstituted the Haitian Army was leak out recently. The new force main function will be patrolling the border to control the flow of contrabands and illegal migration, second to serve the nation during natural disaster, his biggest opponent on this issue are the Int'l community for while they agree those matters are real but feel Haiti does not need an Army

Not deporting is not the issue, deporting random groups of people inconsistenty because they "look Haitian" without any form of documentation is.
Not respecting the Law is not the issue, retroactively applying the Law and using undefined technicalies to deny the citizenship of Dominicans of Haitians descent is.
It's easy to think that the US is trying to force the Dominican Republic to just accept any and all Haitians, but realistically the massive presence of Haitians to begin with NEVER originated in the US. The Dominican government has flirted with big business for a long time and due to that illicit relationship those big businesses has influenced the Government to allow, encourage and sustain CHEAP HAITIAN LABOR. Period. So the Dominican Government can not just pretend that it is completely innocent either, and they know it, that is precisely why they are behooved to listen when the international community calls them out on the many cases of human rights violations.

xwill7 have you checked the nationality of that group in the street. Sounds like Dominicans to me. I love the place but some of these Dominicans make this the loudist place/people I have encountered anywhere. I will admit I haven't been back into a lot of the countries I visited as a young man perhaps now there are other places where jeepitas have so many speakers jammed in the back a passenger has to carry the Jumbos on the floor at their feet as no space for a cooler.
