Santo Domingo.- President Leonel Fernandez on Friday called the Palestinians’ bid for statehood, “a great just human cause,” to welcome that people’s Authority President, Mahmoud Abbas to the National Palace.

Invited by the chief executive to the Dominican Republic, Abbas arrived early Friday to the capital Santo Domingo, where he’ll be declared "Distinguished Guest” by the nation’s Congress.

Fernandez said despite his country’s “strong, beneficial and long-lasting relations with Israel, it also urges the international community to join in the Palestinian people’s push for a “free, sovereign and independent Palestine.”

Abbas "moved" by Fernandez's words.

After Fernandez’s speech to welcome the Palestinian leader, Abbas said he was “moved” by his Dominican par’s expressions. “I don’t have an expression to say thanks for those eloquent, moving and encouraging words. I see in you and grand advocate of peace and justice for all humanitarian efforts.

"It is true what they told me and we know why we have you in mine and in my people’s hearts. The first time I saw you in Sharm el Sheik (Egypt) I knew that we have a great and important friend. We are with you, together in peace, we have become very close and intimate friends but not only a fine friend who defends peace and justice, but also of reality and truth.”

Abbas continued: “What we search for in the world is what you in fact are doing, this means that there are still people who ascribe to the truth and when you went to Ramallah (West Bank) we also realized that we aren’t alone; a friend a brother very close vey intimate friend. For this we fill that we are in one same house, which I’m in my house and in the house of my friend.”

The Palestinian leader concluded: “But our hearts have found brotherhood in this especial relationship to continue, because we all want peace we all believe in peace, but in fact, not just in words."

The empty suit has spoken.

Better he should talk about something he understands.

I would rather listen to him lecture on ribbon cutting than world affairs.

I am wondering how well that Lie-onel knows Jewish people and their mentor? Even with a "so called" stron relationship with Israel, but now Lie-onel seems like playing double-sided game with Palestinain and Israel.

Maybe they will both be "lifelong partners" soon in New York, now that same sex marriage is allowed, lol.
Abbas is looking for the Colombian vote in the security council, and is courting Leonel's possible influence to obtain that plus vote for statehood, Colombia has said that they will abstain. Abbas is going to visit Colombia October 11.
There also maybe be some baksheesh issues in play for LF, by some influential and rich arabs.

Palestinians are probably teaching Leonel how to be more corrupt than he already is. These two are nothing but a bunch of clowns trying to play to a big stage. A garbage person honoring another garbage person. A mastercard moment...

Colombia has a large population of people from the Middle East and these people have strong commercial interest in Colombia. The singer, Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll is part Arab, Lebanese background, and the negotiations with Colombia will be interesting.

Colombia wants the USA to approve a Free Trade Deal that Union leaders in the US and other interests are holding down.

Idiot wind, blowing through the air of SD.
These two chumps demonstrate their acuity at charades.
Each blowing the other, saying nothing but meaningless drivel, acting like kings.
They can pledge deep ties. So what?

Abbas talking of peace? Only a fool believes what he says.

While the citizens of both these leaders starve and barely survive, LF, Abu Mazen and all their entourages eat lobster and filet, drink champagne and laugh. They act like rock stars, going on tour.

Wonder if the Palestinians go for las chicas?

Support for Palestine at the UN is vital.
Turkey , a US ally, is pushing sanctions against Israel.

http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-4128605,00.html

US should stand foursquare with Turkey on this one with the support from such as the DR.

Arab investment is huge in tourism.
DR has much to gain by being even-handed.
If Israel continues to build and support settlements outside its country it is illegal - nothing to do with anti Arab.
Yes, Arabs have been killing Christians for centuries, Christians have been killing Jews, Christians have been killing Arabs..........

Which Arabs ?

Palestinians are considered the crap of the Arab world.

Ever wonder why the majority of the oil rich Arab country's have turned a blind's eye on the Palestinian cause ?

The Palestinian cause has been turned in the melting pot of radical muslim extremist with Iranian supporting, arming, training and financial aide for over 60 years.

I have yet ! Nor do I expect the U.N to enforce a NO FLY BY ZONE to include mortars and rockets over Israel.

I say should Israel be attacked let Israel defend her self in any way or manner she sees fit.

LF is playing a dangerous role here, the Palestinian Diplomat's are STREET PIMPING the DR through LF.

All the Arabs as far as I see can live, own and vacation in there man made Island of the world or the UNITED WILD KINGDOM.

So far the DR tourism industry has done all right up until now.
