SANTO DOMINGO.- The government official and presidential candidate and head of a minority pro-government party Monday revealed he favors the legalization of drugs, noting that its ban is what attracts their use leads to social decay.
Luis Acosta Moreta (El Gallo), director of the Community Development Agency (DGDC), said the government confronts drug trafficking’s effects but not it causes.
He said the neglect of poor sectors leaves the doors open for traffickers including adolescents and the aged, who use it to exchange for medicine and food which in his view, the authorities don’t guarantee.
Interviewed on the program Propuesta on Channel 45, the also president of the minority party Christian Democrat Union (UDC), said the situation in the barrios is so critical that police agents were bribed until the lotteries were legalized, but now it’s the drug trafficker who also funds cultural and sports activities in barrios. “It’s there where this social decomposition begins in which you hear a police corporal speaking of mansions and SUVs, because that’s what we’re living through, for which I totally agree that drugs should be legalized.”

Not one presidential candidate or current public servant wants to educate the youth on the negative effects these drugs will have on their future lives, so far the government has said that Cannabis will give you Alzheimer and dementia when in fact it is being used to ween patients of pharmaceuticals or as an alternative, but, not one time have I heard the government mention ANYTHING negative about COCAINE!!!!!!!!!!!! And, now they want to legalize it, first its prostitution, now its drugs, whats next the human trafficking of any form of slavery?

This is a brilliant idea, because providing legal supplies of currently illegal drugs the price will fall, leading to a collapse in the illegal drug industry, and a reduction in crimes committed by both drug suppliers and users.

Am i dreaming or what. The U.S is not going to send them any money if that happens. The goverment is suppose to support the people not help kill them. Apparently the don't know what crack cocaine, shared needles and heroin does to a person. What next legalizing killings? Everything is already legal you just got to pay the right people the right amount. They have unwritten laws and these dump a____ what to write it down. Are all dominican stupid or they just say and do stupid things? Even the dog's here are dump, they lie down in the middle of the street and you never known the owner until you hit one. Most dog's walk on 3 legs from being hit. Oh what a country, but i love it for some reason.

This will go over good with the criminal north american government narcotraficantes. They will take this guy out to keep their prices inflated. It is too bad the cops at the DNCD fail to understand who and how the drug trade is controlled in this and all other countries. I guess they like their salaries and therefore believe the lies that are told them
From: United States
I thought they were legal? ohh wait only for our government to make money from. Make them all legal and you will take their big source of income away. Not going to happen.

The countries where marijuana is legal are developed countries with great economy and excellent level of education. Now, you do not want our Dominican kids smoking marijuana for breakfast because they cannot afford a decent breakfast. Many of our problems can be solved by developing an education system that promotes entrepreneurship. Higher level of education equals better country.

Legalize drugs?
Pero es verdad que la gente se esta volviendo loca?
If you think it's dangerous now with mind altering drugs supposedly illegal, at least on the record; Wait until they make it legal?
Will they have needle exchange programs like in the Black and Latino neighborhoods in the US?
Will they have METHADONE programs for those trying to kick a HEROIN habit?
Will they have free drug treatment programs for the thousands that will seek help from CRACK (piperos) addiction? This disease is a monster! Crack kills, in case you didn't know.
No, a person has got to be mad to advocate for the decriminalization of drugs? Then again how many sane people mess their lives up with drugs?
On another note - El Gallo Luis Acosta, is just trying to make a name for himself, draw attention, but, doesn't have a chance in a million.

If drugs are legal the value goe's down and crime drops accordingly. Is anyone getting killed over a gallon of milk? I didn't think so. If milk was valued at $2,000.00 per gallon yes, people would be killing each other to obtain it.
The drug addicts will get the drugs wheather they're legal or not so why not try a pilot program to test the theory. You will see the homocide rate drop drastically and the cartels will crumble.
If parents teach their children proper values in the home and drugs had no value you would see great positive change. Alcohol used to be taboo and people were being killed daily for the illegal stuff. You don't see the general population stone drunk every day do you?
From: United States, California
As we discuss this matter the cartels are having their own discussion on how to get rid of this guy. A better idea to get rid of this criminals would be the death penalty for murderers, drug trafficking, rapist, hit & run, Long jail time for drunk drivers & for the corrupt politicians/police no less then 25 years in prison that would solve some of our problems.

Legalizing a problem does not make it go away. Nor does it make those industry unprofitable. Casinos, breweries and tobacco companies still make a fortune despite the seriously addictive curses of gambling, alcohol and nicotine being legal.
Now here's a radial idea - implement and enforce the existing laws.

like that your government will continue to show that it is actually take part in the drug traffick!
what shame for DR! a lot of irresponsible.

multiple studies have shown that just because drugs are legalized the percentage of people that choose to use them doesn't change. legalization doesn't mean morally or socially acceptable it just take the criminality and black market profit potential, and therefore the mafias and the criminals , out of it, just like what happened during the PROHIBITION ERA in the U.S.

Wall Street would collapse if drugs were legalised and too many politicians, police, US ex presidents etc lose a huge source of income to say nothing of the various mafia groups around the world. The CIA helped introduce drugs in the 60s to destroy the minds of the then young generation.

Guarocuya, some very good points.
Perhaps Heroine should be legalized, and subsidized by the government, providing addicts with one-year's supply - provided they inject it all in one go. Problem solved!
