Interesting that a church that considers women as chattels, considers 170 murdered women more tragic than nearly 2,000 murdered men in the same period.

Stone,
That comment is very short-sighted of you. The reason for the number of murdered women is far different than that for the men. Were you ever a part of that church, or you just felt like saying something, anything???

Brien,
In the article, reasons for the murders is not mentioned, only the fact that those murdered include 170 women. The number, appalling though it is, is meaningless without stating the number of men and children murdered.
Regarding the Seventh Day Adventist Church, it is a fundamentalist Christian denomination which considers the Bible the inerrant word of God, and the Ten Commandments, handed down to Moses (Books of Exodus and Deuteronomy) includes the commandment:
“You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male slave, nor his female slave, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's.”
A wife is included as one of a man's possessions, like his donkey. This "holy" book is full of passages demeaning women. Christianity has oppressed, abused and even burned women at the stake for centuries. Now they are hopping on the feminist bandwagon - hypocrites!

Ricardolito and Brien,

I should mention that I actually participated in the march against violence when it was in San Cristobal a few weeks ago. What have you done to support this cause?

My points are:
1) Violence and murder is intolerable regardless of the gender of the victim.

2) The Christian Churches have been major supporters and perpetrators of violence for centuries, but now they are loosing power they want to claim credit for the trend against violence, particularly against women. However their Bible still supports these atrocities.

I hope they will stick to the plan & do something about it, and wont become just a bunch of clown talking too much with out any Action taking place.

matador, what "plan"?
There is no plan, just rhetoric. Murder is already a serious criminal offense. If the offender is caught (unlikely) then the matter is resolved by paying money to the victim's family, or to the corrupt magistrate. The least likely outcome is jail.
Simply say "no" to violence? Say it to who? Keep preaching to the choir? Keep praying? Totally futile but you can feel you are doing something positive.
What "action" did you have in mind? Hope?

So make a TV ad and promote the campaign????? mmmmm how much is this costing??
would it not be better spent putting boats on the ground and crims in jail??? and maybe paying the police that do a "good job" better, so they don't have to take bribes or shake down motorists for cash?

Until our corruption problems are dealt with nothing related to violence can be fixed. There simply is no justice system in this country so it doesnt matter what the laws say.
