La Romana, Dominican Republic.- Casa de Campo resort president Claudio Silvestri on said its owner, the Central Romana Corporation has invested more than 40 million dollars on its reconstruction, despite the global economic crisis, and on their positive outlook in Dominican Republic’s future.

“Our company, has great expectations for the country’s future, for La Romana and for tourism, for that reason, during the crisis, when everyone cut back, our company had the vision and decided to invest 40 million dollars, which is important for our tourist destination,” Silvestri told news source hoy.com.do.

The hotelier said the remodeling of one of the hotel’s biggest salons will conclude this year, at a cost of more than one million dollars, and that US$12 million are being spent to build what he called the Caribbean’s most complete kitchen. He also cited US$2.0 million to build 20 new rooms.

As to Europe’s economic crisis Silvestri acknowledged its effect in Dominican tourism in general, noting that in spite of it, decided to position the resort above the fray, “where the turbulence is felt less.”

The executive spoke Wednesday during the reception for JetBlue’s new flight to La Romana International Airport, with 135 tourists from New York.

CASA de Campo and their hotel partners, stopped construction of its planned five star hotel, in the area where the old airport used to be, claiming "timing was not right", and pulled the rug from homeowners that were expecting this new hotel to materialize, for the benefit of property owners.
The Fanjul brothers need to up their investment in Casa de Campo and not just reap the profits, with minimal outlays. This purportedly $40 million is a drop in the bucket, to the values that they have managed to extract from sales of barren land, that a few years ago was inhabited by pig farms.
Anyway the $40 million dollars figure is highly dubious, for the little work that was done, maybe the real figure was in the order of $40 million pesos.

The "Five Star Hotel" is a Four Seasons property. It is their investment (on Casa de Campo real estate )

Four Season's financial problems led to the "hiatus" in the construction. It has nothing to do with Casa de Campo.

I would expect Casa de Campo will auction off the site if Four Seasons doesnt resume soon.

Here's my website for my villa in Casa de Campo "I'm Open for Business"!!

Generoso,

You need to have the facts before you shoot of at the mouth! This was a Four Season Property and I doubt they will build anything there for a long time now.

The economy will effect Casa de campo and has already. The prices are higher and the normal regulars wont continue to pay the higher rates in this Global Market. The competition is strong and the resort needed upgrading.

Much, if not all of the resort/hotel areas were demolished and rebuilt. They were re-constructed with the finest materials and in sophisticated design. These facilities were in great need of remodeling and Costasur re-did everything that was needed.
Like all other world wide resorts in this hyper competitive high end marketplace, the setting is quite important. For $40,000,000 dollars(seems high to me too), they succeeded in creating a luxurious facility, almost on par with a Four Seasons.
The fact that CdC, has1500 very wealthy villa owners paying huge sums to Costasur monthly for electricity, common area, security, water, internet service and telephone makes the profit incentive for the resort fairly meaningless. I believe one of its main purpose is to provide many jobs. It could have all been torn down and sold as real estate at millions an acre.
Great that there are daily flights from LRM to MIA and now non stop from JFK from LRM on Jetblue.

Dummy: Everybody that frequents Casa knows that the Four Seasons Hotel was a joint venture with the Fanjul's, and who do you think owned the land? A...hole.
Before you shoot your ignoramus trap, be sure you contribute something.
I did not mention the hotel's name out of common courtesy, that you obviously don't have.
One more thing, if the Fanjul's could have provided the financing, as they were asked to when the banks said no, the project would have gone forward.
BTW: there are hundreds of unsold homes in CASA de Campo and no buyers, and most owners can't afford the higher maintenance fees that are exorbitant, and want out.

From my numerous golfng and social friends living at Casa de Campo , there are very few good things being said about the management at Casa de Campo or the Hotel either and people are openly saying that there needs to be a change of management at the Country Club , at the Hotel and the general management of the management club .But the views agout this man Silvestri are very damning.
I have been told there are between 400 and 500 homes for sale mostly from people who have become totally dissatisfied with the management of the resort and the lack of information or lies being fed out to the owners .
Last week when I was there , the gardens and surrounds were as attractive as ever , but I have never heard so many complaints from the Country Club members in particular and of course there is always the ridiculously high food prices .
I was taken for dinner at the hotel one night,no ambience ,and poor meun ,,much better and cheaper at Nicolas de Ovando in Zona Colonial

I agree with the basic comments of generoso ,,it is about time the Fanjuls and the Limas and the other Romana central realised that new and better management is needed to get this lovely resort backon the rails ..and for all the bullshit from Silvestri and others to be stopped .
I was rather surprised the old hotel was not simply demolished and the new hotel on the Caribbean built to take its place ..

The Fanjul's and their cohorts and fellow travelers have finally succeeded in running Casa de Campo to the ground. This place is grossly mismanaged with all but the wrong visions and goals, Silvestri is totally out to lunch, doing his yoga routines, and Paniagua is an out of sync brown noser, living in a 1950's time warp.
They kept raising the maintenance and prices, and chased away the Oscar de la Renta, and Julio Iglesias that breathed life into an otherwise dull and geriatric villa owners.
Casa is a has been and management has failed to keep this resort on the wishful thinking high level that they aspire to be. The purely cosmetic changes in the hotel are just make up, and the outrageous food and resort prices would scare any serious investor away for good.
Homes are not selling and real estate is overpriced maybe by 50%. Tunnel looks dark and darker.

This goes to show that some people have money to throw away.
Does this make them part of the 1%? As in the us vs them, the 1% vs the 99%?

No, are you thinking what I'm thinking? OccupyCasadeCampo?
No, this isn't that type of country... those starvin' wachimanes with the sawed-off shotguns don't play that (shame on you) game. They are paid to protect and keep pests away from the paying clients.

Back to the $40 Million:
These people are living a charmed life? Having money for splurging on losing propositions?

generoso .although I do not know the people you mention personally ,I have hundreds of golfing and social friends living there who tell me exactly the same thing ,,,That just at a time when most owners are less well off , the prices for having guests, for golf, for rentals of shops and for the electricity and general maintenace have all risen to an extent that people are staying away .For some strange reason I receive on line occasional copies of the local newsletter, which is simply a propaganda machine loaded with distortions in some effort to imply that everything is perfect ,,when everyone knows the stories are simply untrue. Very sad situation but hope the golf costs do not go up more or I will be forced to la Estancia
