SANTO DOMINGO. – Ending weeks of speculation ruling PLD party candidate Danilo Medina presented Dominican Republic’s First Lady Margarita Cedeño de Fernandez as his running mate during a surprise and brief rally in Santo Domingo’s Hotel Meliá.

The announcement, which formed part of an assembly of PLD leaders, comes after a major survey favored Medina if he tapped Cedeño as the vice presidential candidate. The First Lady thanked Medina for selecting her.

In September president Leonel Fernandez told New York newspaper Diario La Prensa that his wife "has the qualities, the conditions, the preparation and the experience to be the country’s vice-president."

Lets sponsor a BUM, a campecino down on his/her luck with good vocal cords, pick him/her out of the gutter or from deep in the woods, a nobody and clean him/her up with a weeks worth of clothing and make'em run for president...... there are more students or youths old enough to vote that can encourage relative not to vote for these to monopolies(political parties) and have change for ounce, I'm sure the populace and dominicans abroad will appreciate it.

I wish upon these two and their significant others..... uncontrollable HERSHEY SKWIRTS, LEAKAGE and the TP wipes their bunhole raw until the election is over.

Danilo has just shot himself. It is suicide. She is a disgusting THIEF and do not be surprised if he dies or is murdered. LF is a SNAKE and she is no better. They want power.

Our country needs a DRASTIC change and fast. If PLD wins then we are DOOMED. She is a imbecile, does not speak well, is a opportunjist married to a queen and has no integrity. She is a thief stealing money form her agency and a shopaholic.

This is a disaster all the way around.

I think he just lost the election, he has shown us that he is a puppet of Lionel hopefully the dominican people won't sell their votes for a bag of rice and a pint of Barcelo.

If the PLD wins, Danilo will mysteriously die before completing his 2nd full year in office. No further comment needed.

Why so much negativity here? This move by Danilo will boost up his campaign. Margo Cedeño has done so much for the country in terms of social welfare and education. This is a good idea and great move. The mass population simpathizes for Margarita because of her trajectory as the current First Lady.

The DR is looking more like Russia's Putin and Medevev, alternating in power, except that the Russians don't have Hipoloco El Burro running also.

The government denied yesterday that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has broken the Stand-by Accord that was subscribed in 2009 with the Dominican Republic as has been published in some of the national media.

In an answer to this, the Minister of Economy, Planning and Development, Temistocles Montas, said that the information is a rumor that has been circulated by the Dominican Revolutionary Party.

"This is one more speculation by the Revolutionary Party. I deny this categorically," said the official.

Montas recognized that the Dominican authorities are still waiting for the directors of the IMF to deal with the letter of intention for the seventh revision of the Stand-by Agreement, which involves a total of US$1.7 billion dollars.

The government expected that the letter of intention would be approved last month, nevertheless, it was not, in spite of a Dominican commission that travelled to Washington for that purpose.

If he denies it, it must be true.

IMHO, Danilo, even with margo aboard, is a better option than the Hippo. I can't forget how much our nation went down the tubes during his tenure.
Like or not we're stuck with those two. There ain't no other choice.
Let's see what happens. We may get lucky and have a dynamic duo who'll actually do some work at home and leave the peace-keeping jaunts to Hillary, for a change.

RonEvane, Of course there are other options. A massive vote for the candidate of ONE insignificant party will greatly upset the system of a two party state that the voters have created! It does not matter what party, as long as it is too small to rule. They will then have to 'hire' managers to serve as ministers. This will create a 'technocracy', a government run by specialists in the field they have to manage as minister! In other words, a real MD as minister of health, a real accountant as minister of finance, etc. (The problem will be, finding a real lawyer for minister of justice).
In any case, all votes for an unknown political party will offset the now ruling two power mongers, the smaller party, the better!

It’s interesting that Mr. Medina did no choose Mr. Brito as his running mate.

Danilo made a bad choice for real. Then again he didnt really have any other choices. Who else could he have picked, really. He is an ok candidate. El Burro has more personality than him. Danilo is a normal man, at least he seems normal. Hahahaha, Then again this is DR. What is normal here? HAhahahahahaha!!!!

Wearing expensive hats and outfits does not qualify a person to run for such an important position, the VP and the president should complement each other, one has expertise in the area of weakness of his/her partner.. Now in DR we are going to have two “mojones” running the show. God have mercy on us.

Gone native you hit it right on the nose. That is precisely what I have proposed in the past. The best way to fight against and these two parties is to make a vote of protest and against traditional political parties. That is what I am doing. I am not voting for either one, but rather for some minority party. I hope the Dominican people follow a similar line and not vote for either Danilo or Hippo. We got to get them to understand that if they don't clean up their act the people will not vote for them.

guillermone,
And now, how to get a majority to do the same? A protest vote, not for Papa. Not for Mama, but all of them for one small party with no links to the bigger ones?

I happen to be a Dominican, but not at all interested in running for office. There are others, much more qualified for this privilege. Unfortunately they ain't the Hippo or Danilo. So what does that leave us with? Not much!
I'd say, Danilo has no track record, but Hippo surely does. And there ain't no way I'd waste my vote on this moron.

As i was saying the DR after EL ZATRAPA who is to blame for the centralization of all gvt entities.
This is taking away the citizens's right to vote in their own governors for its provinces and made it totalitarian and the government that followed did not do anything to give back the autonomy taken away from them. They figured it was easier to control the nation by appointment regardless wether
the ass hole was born there or not, or ever visited that province to know the local needs.
In DR if a party wins the election he appoints all the gvt officials same as in many Latin American countries. I have travelled all over the Western Hemisphere including Europe. I find the lesser Antilles to be more democratic than DR divided by Parishes but still serves its local people.
