SANTO DOMINGO. – Rebuke of British ambassador Steven Fisher’s statement of alleged extortion against an UK company which he affirms left the country for that reason snowballed Friday, with at least three Dominican Government agencies urging the diplomat to name names.

The Foreign Relations Ministry said it was highly surprised with Fisher’s declarations on Wednesday, that the lack of legal security prevails in Dominican Republic.

It said it hasn’t received any diplomatic note from Fisher or any other ambassador complaining of alleged difficulties for foreign investors to install companies or projects. “We regret that the ambassador of Great Britain hasn’t used the diplomatic channels to express his unease to the country and preferred the communications media.”

Justice Minister Radhamés Jiménez also rebuked the manner in which the diplomat lodged his complaint, and asked Fisher to provide evidence, "obviously, to investigate who was or who were those officials and which was or which were the companies that were submitted to that type of extortion."

Big investments

Great Britain is considered the fifth biggest foreign investor in the country, according to the Export and Investment Center (CEI-RD), whose director, Eddy Martinez, also asked Fisher for proof.

DT called the British Embassy to get a statement, and was told that “they’re all in a meeting, we’ll s get back to you.”

Is there anyone out there (other than Ricky and the other paid cohorts) who believes that this did not happen?

Ambassador Steven Fisher,

This staged "indignation" a la “Captain Renault in Casablanca” is used to divert attention from national mobilization against the national epidemic of violence against women who are not being allowed near the national palace.

Ambassador Steven Fisher,

Don't trouble your brain or soil your morality with giving even a second thought to the appropriateness of your comments.

This is a country that is ruled by a president, as you well know, that "extorts" from the nation’s children the educational resources mandated by the constitution, 4% of GDP. He has been in criminal violation of this legal requirement for almost 8 years.

So, from the president on down, no one in this government has any moral standing to challenge you for telling the truth!

Ambassador Fisher, tell these transparently corrupt politicians that you will name names.

IF, when they are found guilty, they go to real jail for real years.

Not the 1 year preventive custody, not the jail where they are out at clubs with their jailers. And that empty suit LF cannot pardon them because they get hemorrhoids.

And if these extortionists miraculously get out of jail, whoever let them out goes to jail to finish their jail sentence.

Josean is correct.

"is used to divert attention from national mobilization against the national epidemic of violence against women who are not being allowed near the national palace."

Imagine there has to be a march to remind the Dominican male that you can’t terrorize, maim and kill women just because you are a hubris fool.

It is quite amazing that this man Fisher could be appointed to the post of Ambassador with his record ,,,I iamgine that his posting to the DR was seen as some sought of punishment for his adulterous interoffice conduct ,,and now , with a change of Government in the UK I imagine his career is very limited,
Yes , for all I know , a british company may have quit the DR citing corruption , but Fisher could have named the company or even produced some correspondance showing he had tried to deal with it .
No he has stuffed this up ,,,bigtime.....just like his previous jobs in Venezuela and Hungary ...Not too sure where they can send him now .Somalia ??

Not at all ...you want to read the postings more precisely ...For all I know, there may have been a British company who was asked for some extortion money and decided to leave ,,I do not know, I have also said that you need to have a slush fund to pay people off here and in many other developing countries..
I have also said that this man is a cad and a disgrace to the British Foreign Service and this has been printed in numerous British newspapers ,,,
Unlike you and others I do not regard the DR as a failed state ,,,your regrettable reappearance here simply is a replacement for Jim Harrington ,,who just want to give generalised bashing of the the DR . If you could write a specific comment and stop giving minuses to anyone who disagrees with you , then I may have to re assess your apparent unfortunate inabilities to debate

"your apparent unfortunate inabilities to debate"

I did not know that being a paid lap dog for Lie-onel Fernandez and his Corrupt-Narco-Infested government in the form of a clapping seal constitutes as “ability to debate."

As to my "regrettable reappearance"

I might point to you that I am registered as member 76 and you are member 594, so when you did not even know that DT existed I was already posting here, before the PLD hired you to come a distort reality.

Also, I would not rely too heavily on British newspapers as reliable sources of information, especially those in the Murdoch realm of influence. The New York Times claims it publish the news that is fit to print; but in the case of your “sources” many a time they have been caught MAKING the news to FIT.

So I can understand your affinity with them and Vincho, as the three of you have the common denominator of making it up as you go along!

as you can not accurately read postings , it seems pointless to reply but for the last time...you may have seen that I used the word reappear ,,which indicates that i was aware you had been posting before .
you can not concentrate on an article and simply rely on attacking the writer ,,a common form of an inability to reason ...I always think it both more mature to look at what is being written than who wrote it ,

I hope you will not be offended if I do not reply to you again ,,I find your postings rather tiring ///good night

In the age of people uploading videos of "PEOs" to youtube, but no one can show a recording or video of any of this. You would think they would, just from experience when dealings in other countries in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, USA, ets...

Same deal when everyone scream CORRUPTION by some goverment officer or conrgressperson, but they only accuse the "title" (funcionado, diputado, General, Coronel, ...) never the "name" of the person.

By not pointing the finger at that person, they themselves are SUPPORTING corruption!

As we all know, the job of a diplomat is to say it without offending or accusing anyone. I think Mr fisher got this one caught in his mouth.... Now, he'll have to name names, which would open up a can of worms and sour relations. Or, he'll have to, somehow, bury this somewhere and shut his trap until it all blows over..It's doubtful we'd ever get to know whom he is accused of accusing.

I think that the information given by this so called "ambassador" is very possible, and could perfectly be true.. But it so sad, to see our own people undermining our country. That is why this country will never be a better country... This man comes from a country that should be listened (as a fifth investor country) so, why didn't he just use the correct path? why the media, without any prove? Well I tell you why... the (now famous) aggravated company, is a company that was condemned 3 TIMES to pay US$9,313,833.72 to a local contractor (3 TIMES, even in the supreme court)

If the company should be allowed to get away without paying a man his WORKED MONEY, this would be the perfect place to invest... But as they where condemned TO PAY, this is a corrupt country.

Remember you people, that many of those European Countries (Specially Spain and UK) still sees us as "the colony". Many of them still think of us as THE SLAVES...don't play their game

This story is huge for a ambassor to make claims like these will certainly rattle the cage in the dominican republic , its time for the dominican government to get off the gravy train , lets start seeing some audits in there transactions and lets arrest those who abuse there power and bring them to justice .

So he's an adulterer? Then he's no different from many Dominicans. I still don't see how that makes him unfit to be the British Ambassador. His recent, brave exposure of corruption shows he is serving his country's interests very well, and probably the best interests of this country too.
I think he has almost universal endorsement from readers of this site.
Good on him, I say!

Sorry ,,,he had affairs with other nationals when working abroad ,,and he abandoned his wife,,I do ot find that a suitable CV for an ambassador ..and his exposures if in fact they are correct , which I very much doubt and that is why he has gone to ground , have yet to be shown to have any credence
Well of course the bulk of readers support him as they are anti everything about this government without any seperate considerations.
Just look at the postings and you see that 95% are generalisations and 5% are comments based on the matter in hand and some research
As Ron Evans states often ...if anyone took the bulk of the postings here as accurate we would have no tourists and no investment

"Foreign affairs"? Isn't that like when an embassador or such has a lot of girlfriends or boyfriends, as the case may be?
