Santo Domingo.- Nine inmates jailed on drug trafficking charges escaped Tuesday from a bus taking them from the Ciudad Nueva Courthouse to the jail at Najayo, San Cristobal (south).

Local media report that the inmates Luis Felipe Montero (Leónidas Hernandez), Juan Carlos Hernandez (El Cabo), Antonio Ureña (Dandy), Juan Carlos Marte Florencio, Israel Pinales, Natanael Moreta, Nivar Emilio Moquete, Juan Carlos Montero, Juan Vizcaino and Luis Felipe Martinez and charged with striking the bus guard to perpertrate their escape.

The inmates were being transported together with 12 others in the prison bus and allegedly escaped “taking advantage” of the vehicle’s “unlocked rear door,” the authorities said Wednesday.

and when the prison bus reached Najayo ...low and behold there was no one ...I hope that Roy Stone is feeling safe in his nearby home withoout book case ,,,i suppose most have seen these larger prison buses and know that there is always a lock ,,just in case some one opens the door from outside but this time it was easier to open from inside ..
Now , on this story ,,,I agree there must have been two or three on the take ..I wonder where they alighted ...probably at some traffic lights in SD before the motor way ,
it really is a unique country .

this country is hillarious lmao, this is the result of paying cops 140 a month, and most other employees paying them only their money for transportation, they have to hustle one way or the other.

A simple matter of not having exact change for the bus fare ... happens all the time in Canada, no free ride ...

21 inmates, a driver and 1 guard on a bus without barriers to separate the inmates from the officers and an unlocked rear door, where is the transport units?

What is the big deal ? It is par for the course. It is not unexpected behavior.

Note this: The US federal prison system allows prisoners to transfer from one federal prison to another via public bus, unescorted. see video from WHDH Ch. 7 Boston MA.

Ricardolito, no it wasn't at the traffic-lights. By coincidence, the driver stopped to check the tires, outside each inmate's house
P.S. - thanks, we ended up having a bookcase made.

Santiago/Miami,
Man! It is exhausting being Dominican and having to put up with such levels of corruption. I swear, these dirty corrupt bastards van acabar con nuestro paisito.... I ask God to just once let me read somewhere that a drug trafficker that was proved to be guilty -- actually got 30 years without evern being paroled -- and without the benefit of getting extradited to a comfortable, clean, climate controlled cell in the U.S.

Again, leave it up the rumor meister Ricardolito to distort the news. The suspected felons were riding in an open truck, not a bus, escorted by a lone police sergeant riding shotgun. He was disarmed by one of the prisoners and then they all escaped. Three of the escapees have already been caught and the rest are being hunted down. They were not technically in prison yet as they were being transported there by the justice ministry, that failed to provide adequate guards, and prison buses.

I did not distort the news ...I read in DT here that it was a bus , so you can blame DT for that, and for more than 20 people it had to be a decent size bus ..so get your facts right so we will not doubt you on the other part of your story

Roy. ... vehicle fleet maintenance and client satisfaction goals are two worthy considerations when running that sort of business. ... did they have luggage? Hopefully the driver did not poach the luggage. ...
