Santo Domingo. - President Leonel Fernandez Thursday said a serious debate on education must center on three questions: what is taught, how is it taught and why is it taught. “From there we’ll speak about the rest.”

“But nobody says to me what is it that’s going to be taught, what it means to define a curricular development, no one is speaking to me about education if they don’t tell me about methodology in education, where also there’s a transit from an educative model centered on the teacher to an educative model centered on the student,” he said.

The chief executive said society has the current challenge to modernize its educational structure for which it’s important to know what the new educative model seeks. He said there’s a global debate on education reform. “In my way of seeing it we’re in transit from an educative model that was centered on an industrial society to one for the society of knowledge in the 21st century.”

Graduation

“I know what the graduation of these youngsters in software technology means for the Dominican Republic. It means the yearned for revolution which we have always beloved, which will allow the definitive transformation of the nation,” Fernandez said in the National Palace graduation ceremony for 600 youngsters trained in the elaboration of software.

The training has the support of the Higher Education Ministry’s National Software Scholarship Program, in coordination with Dominican Republic’s Export and Investment Center, Santo Domingo Cybernetic Park Foundation and the Cluster of Software Companies.

This Con only speaks when it benefits him at the moment, he has something up his sleeve. He is not stupid, he only took advantage of an entire island.

Leo wants a mass-debate on education? DR does not need more mass-debation!

I want to know what "elaboration" of software is - playing shoot-em-up games or "cracking" locked software? This county, and it's CD industry is founded on piracy. Leo may be in to something!

He wants a "serious debate on education must center on three questions: what is taught, how is it taught and why is it taught. “From there we’ll speak about the rest.” - no mention of funding. Without it nothing can happen. A talk-fest is cheaper than actually doing something and is a good distraction while he spends borrowed money on what he wants. Maybe he's planning to take his entourage on another world tour - this time to see what other universities are teaching? Wanker!

The debate will only bring up that the education system needs more money and then they will say we don't have enough money to go around.
Bid liars.

From josean with love!

To all the Leonelitas and Fans of METROLANDIA here is a early Christmas gift.

“Wikileaks:

Expensive Metro contrasts with crisis in education, health, energy and security

"Is Fernandez trying to divert the attention of the public from the systemic problems that he cannot resolve in the short term?” asked the American Embassy.”

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic.-the Embassy of United States criticized the of 27 February 2006 speech of President Leonel Fernandez to the country, for putting too much emphasis on the construction of the Metro of Santo Domingo; work that the US diplomats considered of "high risk and frankly dubious."

In a cable sent to the State Department in Washington, numbered 000862, dated March 9, 2006, the Embassy of United States in Santo Domingo states:

"A risky high-profile project and, in our opinion, a frankly doubtful public works project", expresses the cable.

"In a country where electricity is chronically poor, where border control is almost non-existent, and where health, education and welfare indicators are below the average, Fernández persists with highly technology and costly measures that will directly benefit only a small part of Dominican society."

The cable stresses: “Furthermore, they had information that President Leonel Fernandez had told Diandino Peña the man in charge of the construction of the Metro, that he wanted to ride the first train of the Metro in May 2008, "just in time for the presidential elections" in 2008.”

So time has shown that those of who have always criticized the METRO as an ill-conceived, wasteful, non- propriety, non-transparent project of minimal benefit to the VASTE MAJORITYof Dominicans, including the US Embassy, were RIGHT!

"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!"

PS

No! I did not write the cable for the US ambassador, nor did my ant-METRO “ad nauseum” postings of the past several years here on DT, influenced the US Embassy. Although, it is eerie to see that some of the issues raised in the cable are very similar to those raised by many of the anti-METRO posters here on DT.

Finally, I could have used a Thanksgiving theme for this posting but the obvious reference to Lie-onel being a TURKEY would have been too sophomoric.

"Government would seek to divert public attention for not complying with law of 4 %"

SANTO DOMINGO (r. Dominicana) For Octavio Figueroa, one of the coordinators of the Coalition for a Digna education, it seems strange that President Leonel Fernández, with almost twelve years as the head of the Government, that at this stage of the game does not know "how," “in what” and “ for what “ the investment of 4% of GDP is required.

It appears this issue has taken on a life of its own.

I just don't get it.... Quote: "But nobody says to me: what is it that's going to be taught?"

What freaking difference does that make, Leo? Who the hell says you need to be informed, as to the curriculum? Just caught up the funds due to education and stop your dumb/asinine excuses! Who do you think you're foolin'?

This (bird-brain) did not ask the same question to the military when they requested the expensive airplanes or the HD motor-cycles for the police force, that turned out to be a fiasco on both counts.

He attended the State owneed University to become a profesional crook (lawyer) ,which he is doing good at. If he so educated at the expence of the DR tax payersthen should not give it a thought on funding the higher education as well as education perid.

DR should invest in schools as well as quality teachers at higher pay and dump those illiterates
soldiers that all they do is make ilegitimate babies. If he had the power and nerves to get rid of at least 50% of the uniform forces including police and invest that money on education then we could catch up to COSTA RICA.
