Santo Domingo.- President Leonel Fernandez Wednesday affirmed that ex US president Jimmy Carter was the great promoter in restoring Latin America’s democracies in the 1980s.
He said Carter’s influence kept the region’s revolutions from becoming dictatorial regimes and democracy instead, in addition to his great contribution to the respect of the dignity, sovereignty and independence of Latin American nations.
“The apostle of Cuba’s independence, Jose Martí, said that to honor is honorable, and indeed, in the Dominican Republic we feel deeply honored today in recognizing an outstanding figure in international scope for being the standard bearer of values and principles that lead to the respect of the dignity of human beings, it’s about president Jimmy Carter,” Fernandez said.
After noting that the 39th US president won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002, fernandez bestowed the Order of Duarte, Sanchez and Mella on Carter, the country’s highest honor.

A quiet achiever and I think a very good and honest man from what I have read about him and well worthy of any honour that is given for the betterment of humans regardless of race or colour .
He has been very effective as an ex president undertaking humanitarian missions and I have great respect for him
From: Dominican Republic, NEVER FORGOTTEN, NEVER FORSAKEN!
They give this honor to everybody that show up at AILA, last month to a terrorist and now to one of the weakest US presidents ever.
I have more respect for what he does now, than what he did as president.
Just my two cents.
LEONEL LAMBONASO!

Meanwhile as Lie-onel Fernandez tries to distract us by awarding Craker Jack Prizes, here are the real happenings at the Failed Narco State he has nurtured:
1.2 employees to professors at UASD
The Federation of Associations of UASD university professors (Faprouasd) says that some of the funds sent to the state university are diverted to favor individuals, groups and officials in remunerations and high wages that atrophy the development of the state university, as reported in Listin Diario. Faprouasd said that during Franklin Garcia Fermin's term as rector, 700 new employees were appointed and a further 88 have been appointed under current rector Mateo Aquino Febrillet. The commission coordinator, Manuel Linares said that the policies to improve academic standards at the UASD established in the 1966 Movimiento Renovador have been replaced by politics and political patronage.

Jimmy Carter, in my mind, is a fundamentally decent man. this is why i have trouble coming to grips with the following
1...his support for Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge
2..his support for the Shah of Iran
3..his support for Suharto of Indonesia
4...his support for Somoza, of Nicaragua.
those were some pretty foul human beings, if i may call them that.

Your trouble Dready is that you fail,as do others on DT, to recognize that the World is not OF YOUR CHOOSING! There are foul leaders and good leaders. And even decent individuals must deal with the cards or hand given to them when they reach the leadership position of a nation. To make scramble eggs, you have to break some eggs. To defend national interests you have to do certain things and engage-even offer an occasional Cat's smile to certain egocentric individuals that are pretty disturbed. And so it has been and so it's very likely to continue. But don't feel too bad for Carter, he's doing his humanitarian best to beat back all those awful unpleasant necessities of his prior position of president.

We can judge Carter for his past deeds during his tenure however ill-advised or dim-witted they might have been, or.... we can celebrate his accomplishments since then..... Him and wife have made significant contributions for the betterment of this world. Their commitment and effort must be commended and appreciated.
How many ex presidents have taken to getting off their easy chair to personally go places where him/Rosalyn can do good for humanity? I don't know of any.

Carter hung the Shah out to dry and because of that we have had decades of Terrorism funded by Iran.
He pulled support from Somoza(A total Putz but our Putz) which led to tens of thousands killed by the Communists in Central America
He gave away sovereign US territory to a Dictator in Panama
He allowed Sovereign US Territory to be invade and our citizens to be held hostage without any credible response.

The Carter administration made many wrong choices while in power, and he was punished by the voters by denying him a second term, as well as public humiliation by Iran's Ayatollah's.
But it was Carter that recognized Antonio's Guzmán's election in 1978, and pressured a tricky President Balaguer, by using diplomatic pressure, to turn over the presidency to Guzmán, who put the DR on the path to democracy, by getting rid of the military warlords that had their own serfdoms or private dominions, independent of the state.
After his retirement from office, Carter shined for his efforts contributing to peace in the world, providing housing to the less advantaged, and defending Palestinian rights, for which he was severely chastised by right wing groups.
We need more people like Carter in these troubled times and he is a good, charitable, humble person.

Mr. Carter and his wife are deeply religious people who are motivated by their believes to do charitable works and it appears that his tenure as an ex-president has been more effective than when was in office.

“The low investment and inefficiency in resources and little preparation for teachers, was reflected in the low level of performance in this sector”

Great idea. He is probably the only real president we've had in the USA for the past 40 years. This man promotes social unity, yquality and interactivity of all races within the human race. Here is a man who is not a racist pig. This is as real as they get. A true humanitarian that doesn't make a lot of noise and does great deeds.

Kaliman, i agree with you, one hundred percent. a real decent human being. not like scum like Nixon, who colluded with the governor of Ohio to send in National Gurad troops to kill college girls. real tough guy. just the type anthonyc loves.

Why use such flowery subservient speech to describe a foreign character (apostle of Cuba) to offer an honor named after Quisqueya's liberators? Is this out of context or what? What was Leonel thinking about? Cuban Sandwiches? WTF? Quote our heroes if you are decorating a visiting dignitary! Especially using 'their" names. Leonel was supposed to use Duarte, Sanchez or Mella's thoughts or speeches, not a Cuban?

I'll spoon feed it to you then: Carter and ALL World leaders must deal with both reasonable leaders and some of the worst characters in humanity. Sometimes, your choice of action is between offering help to a bloody tyrant over a less bloody tyrant or even the reverse in order to advance your nation's National Interests. Personal goodness aside, leadership, especially of a powerful state, often requires a tough stomach and nerves of steel. The meek have religion.

MSM marginalized Carter as they do any one who does not fully support the elitist agenda. Currently Ron Paul is their man to marginalize.
People talk of how carter was humiliated by the Iran Embassy Fiasco but no one bothers to investigate how Reagan's thug Rumsfeld cut a deal with Iran to hold the hostages until Reagan was elected. An oil deal with TOW missiles to boot. Also, how Carter"s FDA would not approve aspartame for human consumption but not long after Reagan was elected it was approved.
