Santo Domingo.- Ex Cincinnati star pitcher Jose Rijo will be arrested before Christmas Eve, the head of the Justice Ministry’s Anti-laundering Unit announced Monday.

German Miranda said the World Series MVP “will be arrested from now until December 24 because he’s already in contempt of court and he can’t do that anywhere in the world. He couldn’t do that in the United States, nor in any part of Europe, it’s a disrespect to the subpoena that is being served on him.”

The ex Major leaguer has failed to appear twice for questioning by the Assistant Prosecutor, who heads the investigation into his business dealings with the also fugitive Matías Avelino Castro, wanted for the murder of the journalist Jose Silvestre in La Romana.

Miranda, interviewed on Antena Latina Channel 7, affirmed having evidence linking Castro’s seized businesses in Dominican Republic, valued at RD$100 million (US$2.6 million), with Rijo, who didn’t show up for questioning for the first time in November 3, claiming stomach problems, and again December 6.

Well I tiotally agree with the sentiments that this man is in contempt of court and should be placed in prison ,,but some how i just can not see this happening...if it does , then it is a giant leap forward in the system here.

Hopefully this is but one of the cases to finally demonstrate that no one is above the law of the land. The political regime of the DR needs to address the pervasive understanding-WITH VERY GOOD BASIS-that many Dominicans have that the rich and powerful are above the law. It will take more cases of people like Rios to begin to turn this long running horror that has plagued our country. Respect for the rule of law is sacrosanct to any attempt at creating a just and rules based society.

The professional sports people need to shape up they are the heroes of a lot of children and they act like this. They think they are above the law. They don't realize we can do with out them. If they all vanished tomorrow the world would survive. If all the farmer vanished tomorrow we be in deep trouble. Funny we pay the people we don't need more than the people we do
