The cocaine, the foreigners.

SANTO DOMINGO. - National Drugs Control Agency (DNCD) president Rolando Rosado on Friday said the millions of dollars from the sale of the 1,077 kilos (2,152 pounds) of pure cocaine seized in La Romana’s airport Thursday morning would’ve been used to finance terrorist activities.

“We’re speaking of a drug trafficking activity to generate profits for terror activities in others countries," the official said, but noted that among the ring’s targets don’t figure any in Dominican Republic, and instead, "in other countries which we cannot name at the moment."

Rosado said the DNCD coordinated the operation with other agencies, mostly the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

He revealed that those linked to the activity and the drug’s destination, "aren’t the traditional ones involved in these actions."

The confiscation of the drug found in 1,001 packages within 20 suitcases was coordinated by local and foreign entities that kept it from boarding a plane at La Romana International Airport dawn Thursday. “In this investigation all national forces are involved, including productive sectors which have collaborated with us, because they know the DNCD’s transparency and responsibility.”

In a statement sent, the official said although he wouldn’t provide furthers details on the ongoing investigation, insisted that it was about trafficking linked to terrorism. “I’m speaking of a drug trafficking activity, I repeat, applied to terrorism, in other words, it’s about narco-terrorism. It was to finance acts of terror in others countries."

As of Friday noon 16 people have been apprehended,, among them Dutch nationals Nicholas Joannes Maria and Angel Nathanael Deborah Kimberlei, as well as the Brit Watson Rawson Edward, who’ll be taken to La Romana for arraignment in the next few hours.

Now our corrupt officials think blaming terrorists will divert the attention from them so they can ask for even more money.

We have no security in the land of corruption.

The answer is to poison all of it and put it back in the system. Get rid of the buyers and the problem goes away. If nothing else they won't want to ship through the DR

It is beginning to look like there may be some sort of issue with the Phytosanitary Certificate issuing process. Clearly it is far too complex so producers will do anything to avoid dealing with the paperwork. A Commission should be set up and appointed members from all political parties should investigate and offer recommendations to improve client service delivery.

If this is true;

“I’m speaking of a drug trafficking activity, I repeat, applied to terrorism, in other words, it’s about narco-terrorism. It was to finance acts of terror in others countries."

I expect that US government via the State Department, Justice Department, FBI, DEA, Homeland Security will be issuing a statement shortly.

Or at least locally we will have joint press conference with LIE-onel Fernandez, his Drug Policy Advisor Vincho " I am afraid of Gloria Peña” Castillo and the US ambassador!

Certainly Israel and its international security assets will comment on this "international threat" have been averted!

Now back to the real crime news:

Lie-onel spits in the face of the people of Santiago and tells them its rain:

On September 10th President Leonel Fernandez personally launched a special security plan for Santiago

Security in Santiago: the violent acts belie Leonel

SANTIAGO, Dominican Republic.-the statement by the President of the Republic, Leonel Fernández Reyna, given Tuesday, December 13, about a supposed decline in crime and criminality in Santiago, was denied by the killings and other violence registered in this city in the last 15 days.

With Eri Holders recent pulling on the carpet of Lie-onel and these Wikileaks no wonder the boys are turning on each other:

Wikileaks:

"Corruption in all levels of the Government" impedes the fight against drugs in DR
Corruption at all levels

"Endemic corruption at all levels of the Dominican Government is the underlying reason why the fight against drug trafficking is not giving the results expected in the Dominican Republic", reads verbatim cable.

"In spite of the fact that some large financial criminal prosecutions have been processed successfully, the pardons President Leonel Fernández issued during Christmas of 2008 to a number of people convicted in high profile cases like Baninter and Renove, causing widespread consternation.”

“The cable refers to pardons granted on December 22, 2008 by President Leonel Fernández, " for health problems" to Vivian Lubrano, in fraud of the Baninter (when she didn’t even step in jail after receiving the sentence), and Pedro Franco, Antonio Mars, MILTIADES Amaro and Gervasio de la Rosa, convicted in the Renove.”

The money and drugs of the Paya massacre disappeared

The report adds that there is also a growing alarm about the violence associated with drug trafficking, being the Paya massacre of several Colombians, in August 2008, in the Dominican Republic a good example.

"Not only were the military involved in that case, but that money and drugs seized after the killing disappeared."

"Then, in May 2009, the death of the of convicted drug trafficking boss, Florián Féliz, led to revelations that he ran his criminal enterprise from a luxurious suite with furniture of luxury in the same prison, while enjoying books, plasma TV, a fully equipped bar, a kitchen and prostitutes", specifies the cable.'

Now this not josean's hyperbole this from the US government!

Can we all say Noriega!

Fast and Furious Whistleblower Interview Operation Gun Walker

Are high-profile suspects in Mexican drug cartels also paid informants for U.S. federal investigators? If so, could a brewing scandal in Washington implicate more U.S. agencies in the ongoing drug-related violence in Mexico?

Kenneth Melson, the embattled chief of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), made the earth-shaking revelation in testimony early last week, The Times reports. Melson reportedly told congressional leaders that Mexican cartel suspects tracked by his agents in a controversial gun-tracing program were also operating as paid informants for the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and the FBI.

There seems to be a never ending supply of drugs here. Has anyone checked the expiration date on these packages? I would hate to think they are sending bad drugs to the consumers.
There must be warehouses full of this stuff right under their noses.
I would guess the cartels have been stock piling this stuff for years.

This government is a little to friendly with Mexico and Columbia and now they are getting themselves mixed up in terrorism? That will pull out all the stops and gives the US and EU the right to do about anything they want to stop it.

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic- The military and other security institutions especially those in charge of arresting and prosecuting members of organized crime, in particular from drug trafficking, are fast and diligent to identify and publish the names and photographs of civilians suspected of being involved in these crimes, but they tend to hide or delay information on the identities of its agents involved in drug trafficking, corruption and other crimes.

FedericoD,

If there is this overwhelming evidence against President Chavez then would you classify the American and European petro companies as accomplices, as well as, Lie-onel by participating in Petro Caribe and having sold the Dominican Refinery to Chavez?

Also it is my understand that President Santos of Colombia has warmed up to Mr. Chavez, it would seem to me that relations should be going the other way if he is the facilitator for the Colombian drug cartels?

Too cozy: Colombia’s relationship with Venezuela warms up

Getting too cozy for our comfort; Colombia’s relationship with Venezuela warms up

Colombia's right-of-center President Juan Manuel Santos may have been kidding when he recently said that radical leftist Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is his "new best friend," but few in Washington are laughing.
