Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of the Interior and Police has extended its offensive against the illegal manufacture and sale of fireworks during the festive season, with a series of operations at spots where the ban is often violated.

Interior and Police Minister José Ramón Fadul warned that only businesses that have been certified by the ministry are allowed to handle fireworks at public events.

The use and sale of fireworks is completely banned by Law 340-09 on the Control and Regulation of Pyrotechnic Products, and only seven companies are authorized for this purpose.

Fuegos Artificiales Júpiter, Fuegos Artificiales Metralla, Fuegos Artificiales Phantom, Pirotécnica del Caribe, Fuegos Artificiales Popeye, MG del Carie and Phantastik Fireworks are the companies that are permitted to hold displays using pyrotechnical products.

Fadul was emphatic in stating that any individual or institution that violates the established regulation would face the full weight of justice, as set out in section II of the Penal Regime, articles 22 to 26, Chapter IX of Law 340-09.

I do not see it that way ...some fireworks are very dangerous and are banned in many countries except in the hands of experts ,,and in some closely settled barrios are a fire risk ...I think the fireworks displays should be controlled where they can be enjoyed but not cause problems ...we have advanced a long way since the penny bunger

Whoa! Good luck with that one!

There isn't enough police to arrest everyone setting off fireworks on Dec 31. Hell, where I live, all the neighbors compete to see who can make the most noise.

Let's all hope those firework bangs are not gunfire.....what goes up comes down.

Nothing like a bottle of Brugal and guns...a deadly combination.

Of course Ricardito wants fireworks controlled. He knows better than you how you should live your life
