Santo Domingo.- Police reports bring the total of women murdered by their partners or ex-partners in the last 48 hours to five. The toll for December so far is 10.

In Cotui yesterday, a man strangled his wife, while in the Santo Domingo barrio of Buenos Aires de Herrera a woman’s body was found with a bullet wound to the chest. One of the victims was named as Angélica María Hernández, 25.

On Monday a man poured gasoline over his partner and set her on fire. Altagracia García, 36 died of her wounds. Milagros Severino Cedano, 32 was beaten to death by her husband en La Romana.

A 21-year old woman Sacha Leonarda Martínez, was stabbed to death yesterday.

A 21-year old man shot his underage ex-wife and a man he suspected of being her lover and then committed suicide. The victims were named as Yanelis Oviedo and Pablo Pimentel and their murderer, who committed suicide was Víctor Manuel Basilio Mercedes. The tragic event took place in El Seibo. Leonidas Mora Alcántara, 43, was also killed by her husband, who stabbed and beat her to death.

This year so far 229 feminicides have been registered, 19 more cases than in 2010. In the last six years, 1,153 women have been murdered, excluding 2011.

Along with other violent murders, the high rate of feminicide has alarmed Dominican society. There have been calls from many sectors for the authorities to halt the wave of murders of women.

Here is how a real president is supposed to function when the women of his country are under attack:

“Peres calls on citizens to demonstrate against the exclusion of women”

“Jerusalem, 27 Dec (EFE).-the Israeli President, Simon Peres, today called the citizenship to participate in a demonstration against the exclusion of women in Beit Shemesh, focus of a growing controversy over the increase of fundamentalist behaviors.”

When will Lie-onel call for a demonstration to protect Dominican women from the Dominican fundamentalist machistas, who think women are their animal property to do as the wish with them, even murdering them with impunity!

I am not a gambling man but I will bet the house on alcohol playing a major role on the violent murders of women along with other forms of violent subordination. Abusive men use the excuse that substance abuse causes them to be violent. And for a woman who is drinking, it may also increase her chances of becoming a victim of violence, but unfortunately very few seem to notice the major role alcohol is playing.

and this is the reason why most people hate dominican man in the states, i have met alot of girls in the states that say they hate dominican men, at which point i have to say that i am half spaniard to weasel out of the situation

Extra affairs, alcohol, over controlling and jealous partners are the main cause.

Agree with josean and lsantiago77. I know not all, but a lot of dominican men think theyre bosses of their wives and think that they are their owners and that the women are supposed to do whatever they like.
Its true, women dont like dominican men because of that, and also because of mujeriegos tgat they are!

Men need to be educated about how to be gentlemen, real men! Being a macho is not being a real man.
Women need to be educated on how to be stronger and not let their partners beat them up or be dominant in the relationship. A relationship needs to be at an equal level of control, where both decide what needs to be done and what doesnt, and where both talk when theyre uncomfortable with something...not beat each other up

Ings0389,

I agree 100% being a Dominican male when I was single woman in America hated Dominican men for that same reason.

I'm not a betting man...but it's safe to say these Dominican men who murder their partners are players themselves, until they get PLAYED ON then they can't take it.

Dominican men need to realize they have mothers, wives, girlfriends, aunts, grandmother's, daughters, female cousins and female friends how would they feel should another Dominican male were to make a move on them.

Again it takes a real man to treat a woman as an equal not a possession or a sex toy, a lesson yet to be learned by Dominican men.

Responsible fathers teach their sons to become responsible men.

This article is nonsense: "Feminicide" ???

So now killing a woman is worse than a male killing another male ?? How many men were killed by men during the same span ? I bet twice a many or more.

If men and women are equal, then why the need for any special measures to "protect women".

This is all feminazi garbage. Josean needs to wake up.

Dominican women like most women are full of it. All that talk about suppossedly wanting men who treat them with respect - nonsense. Only the macho man gets their panties wet.

Nice guys finish last - this true in America and certainly true in the DR. Why else do so many macho men have so many women ????

It takes an idiot to treat a woman like an equal.

The day you treat her like that is the day she stomps all over you and dumps you for the macho tough guy down the street. - This does for women everywhere - especially the DR

File this one under talking out of two sides of his mouth!

"Danilo Medina: “Zero tolerance for violence against women"

"Denying his speech, three of the legislators of his party and allied parties are opting to defend an accused of beating a woman."

"On the other hand, Fior D'aliza Castillo Mejía is sexually harassed by the Deputy Minister of tourism Peter Rojas Morillo, her boss."

"Tired of the abuse she decides to send a letter to the Minister, Francisco Javier García (Danilo’s Campaign Manager) denouncing sexual harassment on the 24th May of this year. There is documentation that supports her complaint."

"Four months later, on August 31 in the Polideportivo of Higüey, Pedro Rojas Morillo is sworn in as for the director of strategy of Danilo Medina’s campaign in that area."

"Rojas Morillo is the Secretary General of the Party of Dominican Liberation (PLD) in Higüey."

When you deal with animals, you can not treat them like you treat human beings.

You have to treat animals in animals accepted ways.

Furthermore, women in DR "HAVE TO" stand up and keep on fighting the rights. Do not take it for granted even the cultural system in DR is not fair for women.

This is such a sexual country and it is also a country where laziness is almost a past time for some and it is a country where beer drinking is heavy regardless of a familys economic circumstances..but I do not know why it is here that when one party accuses the other of playing up ,,or sittng around doing nothing ,the result has to be so often , a murder .
.
Probably it is all to do , with a generally uneducated population.

Josean, stop with the ad hominem attacks.

Killing of a woman is murder. Killing of a man is murder. There are stiff penalties for murder in the DR. Assault is illegal, Battery is illegal - it doesnt matter who the victim is - male or female.

Why the special uproar because the victims are female ?? Don't
men's lives mean anything ?? All this 'violencia cointra la mujer' is US inspired feminazi garbage - designed to ultimately brain wash dominican women into thinking that men are their enemies - its meant to destroy family formation - the way it has been used to perfection in the US.

it is garbage.

Those who are unable to express their feelings openly and directly, usually explode into violent outrage. The machista man doesn't share his feelings except when he's drunk, and he is easily recognized by his derogatory language and violent actions.

Unfortunately, most will never truly understand the root of the tragedies, because many DT members are only here to slander, instead of flagging up the crucial issue of where the problem stems from, they prefer to blame the nationality of the accused individuals instead.

Dolo1 is correct.
These incidents, deplorable as they are, have no statistical significance when there is no context. What is the incidence of women killing their partner or ex-partner? Certainly far more men are murdered than women in every country, including the Dominican Republic. We need real statistics, not sensational and highly-selective anecdotal evidence to put things into perspective.

Ricardolito, certainly murder rates in Latin countries are very high. Hot Latino blood? I don't think so. Macho entitlement attitude? Maybe.

Uncontrolled violence is often associated with alcohol, however I don't think it makes people violent, but rather removes the inhibitions of already violent people.

The Holy Bible promotes the idea that women are are property of men (like their house, slaves, oxen and goats) and Latin Countries are strongly Christian countries.

Roy ... actually the Bible clearly makes the point that women are equally respected with men ... consider who first encountered the risen Jesus after his crucifixion, it was two women ... however always it has been the culture of the man first and woman second which continues to this very day ...

Certainly there are 'Christians' who were clearly not so but hid behind the name, the same goes with Muslims or any religion, even considering that the athiest god is actually a tenant of communism and yet even you are clearly not a communist ... exceptions to the rule everywhere ...

hmmm ... that could be a new motto for the government of the DR ... what do you think?

FedericoD, where does it say in the Bible that men and women are equal?

"If within the city a man comes upon a maiden who is betrothed, and has relations with her, you shall bring them both out of the gate of the city and there stone them to death: the girl because she did not cry out for help though she was in the city, and the man because he violated his neighbors wife."
Deuteronomy 22:23-24

"They must be dividing the spoils they took: there must be a damsel or two for each man, Spoils of dyed cloth as Sisera's spoil, an ornate shawl or two for me in the spoil."
Judges 5:30

Even the Ten Commandments confirms a wife is a man's possession:

Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his male-slave, nor his female-slave, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's."

There is no recognition that a wife owns anything, let alone her husband.

How on earth is "the athiest god is actually a tenant of communism"?
An Atheist is someone who does not believe in a god or gods. It is not a religion. If Atheism is a religion then health is a disease, and not playing baseball is a sport.
There is no connection between Atheism and Communism. Hitler had a mustache. Does that make mustaches Nazi?
North Korea is under Communism. Their god and eternal president is Kim Il-sung, although he's only been dead 17 years, compared to the mythical Jesus and king of the Jews, dead for about 1980 years.
