Santo Domingo. – A total of 208 agents have been expelled
from the main anti-narcotics agency in the Dominican Republic for alleged links
with drug trafficking, according to its head, Major General Rolando Rosado Mateo.
The president of the National Drug Control Department
(DNCD) revealed that he would be recommending their expulsion from the
institution and that they would be removed from their respective military and
police posts.
He did not, however, reveal the
names or ranks of those affected.
Rosado Mateo declared that the DNCD would not allow “a small group” of bad
members to harm its task of combating drug trafficking in all its forms.
He said that the number of those expelled was not high in relative terms
and that the Armed Forces, the National Police and the DNCD are currently the
“purest” institutions in the fight against drug trafficking.
“Drug trafficking permeates all that it touches, our responsibility in the
broad sense is to pursue those who are in the industry, the trade, within
ourselves”, stated the anti-narcotic chief.
He said that now more than ever all the institutions are working together to
reduce the quantity of drugs entering and leaving the country.
“If you go to the Punta Cana airport, you will see that a year ago the airport
did not have a camera system and now it is completely covered”, he added.
Over the last few weeks the authorities have imprisoned several members of the
armed forces and the national police, accused of trafficking in illegal
substances.

Ok so it is the end of the work day here in Canada and after reflecting an entire day on this particular news report I can barely grasp the following observations ...
(1) look at the inverse, if this had happened in Canada, about 30 seconds after the official announcement the country would practically come to a stand still. we would be in shock and nearly unable to believe the report to be true. This news would damage our credit rating and cause weeks of unresolvable headaches ...
(2) wages ... somehow real world wages needs to line up with what is happening on the ground to offer some level of deterrence ...
(3) all these men ... what are they all to do now?
(4) and then this beautiful country, the DR, my how shiny is this jewel of the Caribbean ... beware of shiny objects ...

Shooting from the hip is a mastery here,; all the individuals fire are being discipline by justice, last one was sentence here in la Romana to 8 years, So what is this bunch talking about…what we need to stop is foreigners with money entering the country to corrupt the week minded agents.
