SECOND PARAGRAPH UPDATE

Nagua, Dominican Republic.- The high swells from Monday’s rough seas forced rescuers to suspend the search for nearly 60 of the 95 boatpeople missing since their makeshift yola boat hit reefs and sank Sunday, a few miles from Matancita beach (northeast), while headed illegally to Puerto Rico.

Update

The Navy on Monday afternoon denied reports that the search for possible survivors of the mishap had been suspended

Navy Intelligence director Luis Castro Hermón affirmed that the search and rescue effort continues, despite the bad weather in the zone.

Authorities have recovered three bodies thus far, while 30 others people managed to swim ashore.

Civil Defense of Nagua, home to some of the survivors, had resumed the search early today but suspended it on the strong beach surf near the area of the mishap, and some of the survivors affirm not knowing their fellow travelers’ whereabouts.

What a terrible mishap, terrible seaman ship and overloading. I knew one 'yola' captain who was advanced funds - spent them naturally - then forced by organizer to go out in poor weather from Luperon - also lost. My condolances to the families.

Kiskeyaman why do you rejoice at this. I hope your are just ribbing Guillermone for fun.
The very reason these poor people were trying to find a better life somewhere else is the main reason that DR cannot absorb so many of your compatriots ; the lack of resources and opportunities. They have to compete for depressed wages and social services. As your neighbors we have taken many
Of your people. Many Dominicans employ Haitians and do business with them. That there are
Extrermist on both side is not in doubt. Haitian armies were the ones that committed racial genocide on our lands.
But let us not starty a tit for tat. Things are hopefully changing in Haiti and there can be cooperation between the governments. Do you travel to DR? What can you tell me how your people are surviving when so many Dominicans are risking and losing their lives to emmigrate?

venganzaderafael,
As usual, like a lot of Dominicans people, you singing the same song like 'Many Dominicans employ Haitians and do business with them. That there are
Extrermist on both side is not in doubt. Haitian armies were the ones that committed racial genocide on our lands' Even you don't have hatians in your DR, you will stay poor because your government are so corrup, Do you know the place of DR in the statistics? Even the haitians a lot of foreign invest don't be stay in your part of the island. HAITIAN ARMIES never commit genocide in your country, you forget what your ancestor spaniard have commit not only in DR AND HAITI BUT EVERYWHERE IN THE WORLD, stop to describe what your ancestor spaniard have doing in the world, the most killer in the world are not HAITIANS. DR PLAY WITH FIRE to keep the hatred in your heart. I am sure you continuous to say with your child that the ennemy is in the west of the island.

I work hard to divize this amount by 2. It's time to the government haitian stop to laugh with DR.
DR ACT NOT LIKE A BROTHER COUNTRY. CUBA AND VENEZUELA HAVE NOT HATRED LIKE YOU.
You know, the HAITIANS ARE THE JWES IN DR. I THINK YOU MUST PLEDGE YOUR BAD LIVE IN DR TO YOUR GOVERNMENT. It's not the fault of the Haitians, if your government invest only 4% in EDUCATION. You have while 30 billions in your budget. Do you think is the fault of the haitians if your felow wants to live in puerto RICO. THE DOMINICANS WANts rich without working. Do you think the dominicans want works? Sorry, i KNOW VERY WELL your country and i see a lot of people who want working behind an office. But my dream is to see a day your countrymen close their loud mouth. They dominicans crye like baby. WHY YOU DON't build a wall?

It's a state of injustice, I Don't know why the haitians come in this mess?
What you can do with a passport dominican? Nothing, but it's normal for someone who is born in your dr, and he speaks only spanish to have your passport.
To make a resolution like that i think, DR IS A ROGUE STATE.
I don't care to live in this mess, If the HAITIANS don't give an serious answer to the dominicans, I think you will believe you are the strong. But you know perfectly you are not the best. You have the same problem like the haitians. AND THE DAY, ALL THE HAITIANS CHOOSE TO make work and best Infrastructures, ALL haitians will leave your country.

Untill DR's stops catering to Everyone else but there own people this type of tragedy will continue to happen. If you go to DR and stay at the resorts you are treated like royalty but leave the resort and there people are living in shit. Unless you are a wealthy DR or a Corrupt politician than you live well. DR citizens need to rise up and demand change in there country. DR makes alot of money in tourism there constantly building resorts & improving there highways but not one penny is going back to there citizens. The only people that enjoy all that DR has to offer is tourist but there citizens are still struggling. Half the population in DR is poor and the ones that get buy are just one step above poor. This has got to stop. I am PR & I have gone to DR so many times and I have seen how people settle & not fight.

Kiskeyaman ... no slack! keep going man! Many many people outside the island want the best for both countries, REALLY! Perhaps you have heard Creole spoken on the radio recently ...

As to the drowned people trying to escape to a better life instead of choosing crime speaks to their honour. Illegally getting into the US is an issue but what other hope could they have when their own government has abandoned them ...

Those in the boats have been traumatized, more families grieving over loss of loved ones, pain and heartache ... and this the direct result of failed governance by the political leadership of DR.

My condolences to those who have suffered loss of loved ones ...

What do you try to tell me? I don't understand very well all you have writting.
I know a lot of person would want good stuff for the whole island. But the problem is the Dominicans.
especially the coward among them who want cut the peace in this island. They don't understand the problem of HAITIANS. The Dominicans forget they have a banana country like Haiti. THE FORGET THEY ARE POOR even very poor. And the gulty is always the haitians. We are the jews now and the dominicans act like HITLER, who hate the jews and accuse them of all problems in this COUNTRY.

You know, a lot of DOMINICANS Don't want to see the real guilty who is their own government!
Dr is a country who have 35 billions of dollars by years, what do your government with all amount?
For me if your government was good, never the persons will die in the sea, a lot of DOMINICANS GO TO the foreign country more than HAITIANS NOW. HAITI PROGRESS

Kiskeyaman ... I have no easy answers for solving generations of hatred ... but there are answers to be found and action to be taken to create generations of peace to come ...

Sounds like a slogan but just because people do evil things does not mean that there are many other people who are deliberately working for good ...

Kiskeyaman.
Cous you say the problem is with the Dominicans. What is the Dominican's problem?
That they want jobs that will pay decent wages to support their families? That they can step outside their house without stepping on a Haitian mother and her children? That medical services and supplies are being freely used up by indigent Haitian? That with all the money promised to Haiti none is being used to relieve the burden of DR taking in 1-2 million of your impoverished brethren.

You are correct in stating we are a banana republic also. That is precisely why we cannot absorb so many of your people. We have taken and can keep many refugees. They should be given some sort of legal status, but we cannot take in so many in such a short period of time. The Haitian population has at least tripled since the last time I was home in 2005. Times were hard then I can just imagine how things are now with 1 million more mouths to feed. We have many problems. Illegals add to t

Overpopulation will lead to hardship and tensions between people. All of the problems that were there before the massive migration east will be magnified. You are probably correct that many will blame the refugees. That is human nature mon cousin. It is not right but it happens.

Our governments need to work together to return some refugees as things improve in Haiti while at the same time working to legalize the status of others. Give and take. Accusations and blaming will not help in bringing ccoperation. We must put ourselves in the other's shoes so we can have some understanding.
