Santo Domingo. - Former guerrilla Claudio Caamaño Grullon denied Tuesday that his commander, colonel Francisco Caamaño’s body was thrown to the sea, calling his comrade-in-arms Hamlet Hermann’s affirmation a "vulgar lie."

He said Caamaño was buried next to two other companions of the expeditionary group near where they fell in San José de Ocoa, in the Dominican Central Mountains, on February 16, 1973.

He said Hermann’s statements weaken the truth on the historical event.

Interviewed on the ColorVision program Hoy Mismo, Caamaño Grullón said three soldiers executed Caamaño, his cousin, allegedly on orders by the then colonel Héctor Garcia Tejada.

Many casualties

He said the guerillas inflicted many casualties on the Dominican troops, as well as on the U.S. troops he said aided them, but didn’t provide figures.

Montes Arache and Lachapelle Diaz

Caamaño Grullon said the late admiral Ramon Montes Arache and retired general Héctor Lachapelle Diaz betrayed the expeditionary movement by leaking information on the disembarkation to the U.S. Government.

He added that Leonel Fernandez’s government has been the only one with a historical sense with Caamaño’s failed effort to lead an uprising.

"Who cares?"

The Dominican people. of which you are not one, care. Worry about the old buzzard running the ghulag your progeny stem from and let us worry about what historical figures are relevant to us.

For many the truth hurts.

You want to honor a person who wanted to make the Dominican Republic his own personal gulag like Castro's Cuba!

Shame on all of you!

One nations hero is another nations traitor. Unfortunately, AnthonyC has a one-dimensional worldview that shuns everything that is beyond his realm of understanding. What is beyond understanding for AnthonyC? What he fails to understand is that all men who stand up to fight for their country regardless of whether they're on the right wing,or left wing side of the battle - Are all heroes for their bravery on the battlefields of war for protecting the homeland they love till death took away their last breath.

AC, I used to be a fan of socialism, but History proved that this type of government does not work; however, EL CORONEL is a hero in my book. He told the gringos in 1965 "Ni los vencimos ni nos vencieron"; and this, with just a hand full of real Dominicans stopping them from taking over the National Palace. In conclusion; un mojon de Caamono has more BALLS than you.

Viva Francisco Alberto Caamano Deno!!! Francisco Alberto Caramba. He is a hero, whether he wanted to bring in communism then, At this point it is irrellevent because with el trapo PLD bringing us down with all the debt and their neo-socialist policies. Dictadura con apoyo popular? I think that was the book. However AntonioC. No digas eso de Caamano. He showed us in 65 that we could fight a superpower and do it in an honorable way. He fought and died like a man. A good Dominican, an example of which if we had more decent men like him we would have a better country, instead of all these lambones and entreguistas that exist now. How can you live with yourself saying such a horrible thing?

He hid like the coward that he is in the mountains unitl he was finaly killed by EMILO JOSE JR, JAVIER and the rest of the Mega Star Generals and Police Chiefs that the GREAT JOAQUIN BALAGUER HAD......

AnthonyC,
By having an open mind, I find myself open to other's opinons, so that may influence me to have my own opinion with the knowledge of others which leads to a superior understanding. In addition, It helps me to understand people from their respective point of veiw, or "follow in their shoes" as a sense of empathy. So again, I am pretty glad to have an open mind.

Hopefully with the track record of ignorance you have displayed, I can only hope that you are embarrassed enough to educate yourself on what are the qualifications for being a courageous man of honor with integrity because Colonel Francisco Caamaño the great patriotic Dominican you accuse of being a spineless coward understood that when a person has integrity, nothing else matters.

Laregla,
I would not call Francisco Alberto Caamano Deno a Communist, he was just a military man who was looking for a common allied, like so many others before him when war landed on the doorsteps of his beloved homeland.

By the way, do you remember the days when Ronald Reagan praised mujahideen in Afghanistan as the "freedom fighters" of humanity?

"If you look at history it is very rare that democracy emerges out of armed rebel movements "

Really? I suggest you study an episode of history called the American Revolution.

"Poor CIBAENO 75 wants to compare The American Revolution to a Communist Revolutionary Movement ploted in Cuba that had close to zero support in D.R!!! Thats why it failed, the country didn't want Communist Revolution!!!! "

I wasn't comparing one thing to another. I was merely pointing out the fallacy of your statement, which is the following:

"If you look at history it is very rare that democracy emerges out of armed rebel movements "

The greatest democracy on Earth stemmed from an armed rebellious movement.

You peopLe critical of Caamano just look at his actions in the late 60's , early 70's. Coronel Francisco Caamano Deno was recruited by Coronel Fernandez Dominguez to give back to the Dominican people the democracy that was usurped with the 1963 coup' d' etat by the military.
When Cor. Caamano asked Cor. Fernandez why he came to him, Cor. Fernandez said " Francis, because you are an honest man". .

After leading portions of the military in revolt he fought the gov't forces and 20,000 US Marines to a standstill for
6 months. He was living quite well, the son of a general, he did not have to risk his family name and well being. HE sacrificed as a soldier for the people, the nation.
That he was disillusioned with his comrades in arms being murdered one by one by the military under the "Great Joaquin Balaguer", no doubt drove him to Castro's refuge. But he did not start out as a Communist. He was a Dominican Officer and a patriot.
