Sosúa, Dominican Republic.- The body of a German who had died from several stab wounds, including one to the heart, was found Wednesday afternoon behind the counter of the Dutch airline Martinair in the Luperon International Airport, in Puerto Plata province (north).

The decomposed body of Erich Zipfel Deutch, 46, was found in a small room after airline personnel noticed the smell they thought that was a rat or another dead animal and began a search and were surprised to find Deutch with blood-stained clothes from several stab wounds from a long sharp knife still plunged in his heart.

Sosúa coroner Freddy Salazar examined the foreigner’s body, which was later taken to the Regional Forensics Office in Santiago.

Nothing will ever happen. Remember that the security is with the Dominican military under Leonel as the supreme leader of the DR.

This should be interesting. Did this man work there? Was he supposed to be on a flight? How come nobody has reported him missing if he was supposed to be on a flight and never showed up? Plenty of questions need answering on this one.

I never visit Sosua for many reasons. It is primarily a tourist town but there are plenty of better places I prefer to vacation with less criminals running around the streets.

There goes the neighborhood! VeronicaDR asks some of the correct questions. Many questions remain............Makes you want to hurry up and fly down to POP, DR. The victim must be very unsuspecting if he let someone get that close with a knife. Perhaps he knew the killer(s)?????

Veronica ,,what makes you connect the German with Sosua ?? maybe he was in Cabarete or Santiago . I believe there are some German travel agents in the area so we will just have to wait .
What happened about the case of the London lady who was murdered at Cabarete late last year ,,I think she had a lover from San Pedro ,,,Has anyone follow upon this one ??

That's easy. The body was in the closet where the toilet paper is stored.

What about.......
Failure of Airport security ?
Security camera filming ?
Weapon left behind ?
Knife found stuck in the heart of all places ?
Weapon easier to bring in the airport then to take out ?
No witnesses ?
Did the victim travel alone and why ?
No missing persons reports prior to finding the body ?
Possible airport employee involvement ?
Able to I.D body in record time ?
Was I.D or travel money found on body ?
Was the victim leaving or just arrived in the DR ?
No luggage, hand bag found ?
Was victim in the DR on vacation or business ?
Taxi, friend's ride or personal vehicle used or found ?
Family of the victim may hold clues ?

More questions then answers reported.

Sad to say in the DR the world may never know.

Wow, no one has blamed a Haitian for this .... miracle!

Reading the posts on this site one would think everything bad in DR is either the government´s fault or a Haitian.

roystone- stop being cynical and sarcastic. No body blames Haitians for nothing other then what they are actually guilty of committing.

I have been to the POP airport within the last couple weeks. It would be quite easy for someone to be killed and left there.....I was there 3 hours and aside from 2 people at the car rental station building and taxi drivers, I saw no one. There should be a story on the Canadian news tomorrow evening about a reporter in Sosua getting robbed at gunpoint, and fired at. He was not hit surpirsingly from 2 feet. From what I was told, the two men were caught and the jewelry was returned by the police (doubt any money was "recovered"). I was under the idiotic impression most people in the country tried to keep a decent reputation for the sake of tourists' income into the country. Aside from this being handled (supposedly), all I saw was crookedness. From the military who stops us outside of town we have to pay just to get down the road to spotters helping beggers get the tourists and harrassing them. What do you expect when you visit a 3rd world country flashing things, I guess?
