As crises come and go, Fernandez appears to care less....
Santo Domingo.- A parish priest of a major church yesterday joined the numerous personalities who rebuke president Leonel Fernandez’s silence on pressing national problems, and also his Administration’s lack of interest in solving them.
Las Mercedes parish priest Santiago Bautista Bautista also deplored Fernandez’s and his cabinet’s lack of response to the Catholic Church bishops’ searing rebuke last week on the “prevalent wages of misery, corruption and impunity Dominican Republic.”
“In the speech he’ll deliver to the nation next February 27 to mark Independence Day, the President should base it on the Pastoral Letter of the bishops, and begin to speak from there,” the prelate said.

That is the most ridicules idea yet, the government and the church should kept apart. We have the drug cartel dictating every move leo makes and now the church wants in on it.

LF isn't fit to be a President.
Zero leadership qualities, allows his friends to be transparently corrupt and denies there are major problems.
Impeach him.

Roberto Jose,
The Catholic church has a long history of denouncing bad governments. Although the priest spoke as a very disappointed individual, his approach is too direct to be endorsed by the Pope. The separation of state and church has never worked for the poor and destitute. Moreover, the necessity of religion in society has been well documented via research performed by sociologists and social scientists. Guys with funny hats have lead millions from a long time. People like you, without practical solutions or advice, come and go without making a positive impact in society.
If you want to be taken seriously as the priest from the article (at least he made the news), I advice you take all your dollar bills with the words "In God we trust" and burn them. Better yet, don't ever accept a dollar bill with the word "God" imprinted on it so you can start your little own separation of state and church. Otherwise, nobody will care what ideas you bring to the table.

Firstly ,, a prelate is not an ordinary parish priest ..it is reserved for a bishop or an abbot or similar .who is writing these articles today ???
Secondly , exactly why should LF base his address on 27febrero on the letter from the Bishops ,,,far more important to base it on complaints of the Dominican people ,If he was to bas his address on the Bishops letter , he could simply say ...what exactly has the church done to assist the social welfare of the Dominican people and why is it that less than 10 % of catholics attend church .

What kind of social welfare assistant is "the church" (including all denominations) is expected to provide?
In order to provide such assistant, must the church have an important role in government?
Is religion a necessity for the poor and destitute?
As we can see, this issue has more complex underlying aspects. It cannot be based on an opinion from few sentences.
