Santo Domingo.- Anti-Corruption Department (DPCA) director Hotoniel Bonilla on Monday said he needs the resources to confront corruption and complained that while RD$240 million will be spent on public defenders this year, his agency gets much less to proceed against corrupt officials.

“If that amount was given to the DPCA, the results would be different. So that you may see the contradictions in this country, even those who defend many corrupt ones have the resources to defend themselves, nevertheless the DPCA doesn’t count in this manner,” the official said one day after president Leonel Fernandez urged the DPCA chief to charge the corrupt Government officials.

Bonilla said Fernandez’s call didn’t surprise him.

As to the perception by a large part of the population that his agency doesn’t prosecute corruption, the official acknowledged that those perceptions are right in many occasions, though others aren’t based on reality.

Yee haa!!!!!!!!!!

Its too bad that LF didn't make the most important change in his staff that was possible.

He should have changed himself for an empty suit.

The anti-corruption chief is simply lying like all others.

i.e. The case in Santiago with the head of the ayuntamiento and the RD$100 million "mis-placement" of funds then later the same guy(head) pulls a gun to the ant-corruption official questioning him. This shall have been a slam-dunk case easy to prosecute in any court system yet your office did nothing about it.

is not like the corruption cases in DR are sophisticated at all to require much investigation they are out in the open and everybody knows it.

Sorry to say this but the anti-corruption office just needs another chief with the will and guts to bring corruption to justice and maybe start an investigation as to why Mr. Bonilla has been so soft in all these big cases that could be easily proven and prosecuted in court.

Mr. Bonilla safe your begging for when you have some results to show because as it stand you have done NOTHING to deserve anything but to be kicked out of the office.

Whatever happened to the prosecution of:

Jose Luis Sued?
The three sons of PLD members accused of stealing millions from the Aduanas?

Just to name a few. There are so many others.

In order to eliminate corruption, there needs to be the will to eliminate and the FOLLOW THROUGH to insure that it happens. Empty words and threats are not enough.

C'mon you minus morons, get started.

What a f...en joke.

No wonder why LF (empty suit) said they should just prosecute. There is NO money to do anything. Second of all, who is going to protect these people when they do go after the big guys, like friend Segura.

LF is totally removed from reality. He is treating his public as though they are morons.

this is not difficult. there really is no money to prosecute the thieves, because the thieves stole it all.

This problem of not having sufficient money or staff to prosecute is an old one and that is why the prisons here in the DR have more than 85% of their inmates there without being sentenced . It also can explain why the system here of action commencing by families or friends of the victim continues so strongly because there is little chance of the public prosecutor taking action ,,It is a disgraceful situation when we have the framework in place but insufficient funds to operate it .
I think that we should seek a specific grant from an interested party , for example the anti drug authority in Colombia or the USA , to get the system working ,,it is equally as important as the grants for infrastructure

Little Dick will apologize for anyone or anything. He will condone whatever you want him to condone.

Just pay his price and he will say what ever you want.

Why not make an honest post for once? Why not tell us what it's like to have no morals, no scruples, no integrity? Why not share that with us ricky?

"Leonel Fernandez urged the DPCA chief to charge the corrupt Government officials"

He also said everyone must take responsibility for their own acts.

Maybe Bonilla took it personally; like it meant "sue us and watch what happens"..

corruption from the top to the botton in the government.
lets go to the breakfast program. in the dr.

i live in the keys in florida. in monroe country.
the government down hear was thinking about "out-sourcing food service program. for the kids in the schools in monroe country.they had a number of issues with the food services in the past.
they now want to get this program "professionally managed"
in the states all people or companys and school's must compliance with a litany of state and federal guidelines, governing nutrition and other isssues. in the dr. i cannot imagine any leval of incompetence that would explain what we have seen "singulary unqualified" people in the government or working for the government with-out any accountability".

I love it, let's create a big Anti-Corruption Department, looks good to the public and the world but be sure not to give them any money to function properly. That will keep them off our backs!

Signed, DR Government
