Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.– A Canadian man has died after a fight at a resort in Punta Cana, on the country's east coast.

Jordan Morrison, 19, from Barrie, Ontario, was vacationing with family in the Dominican Republic.

According to an unnamed witness, Morrison was coming to the aid of an Ontario woman after a man spit in her face. The witness said Morrison and the man were involved in a brief confrontation when he was attacked by a group of men.

Four Canadian citizens have been detained by police in the Dominican Republic. It was reported that Canadian officials are working closely with Dominican authorities to gather additional information and are providing consular assistance to the victim's family.

Guy, why don't you wait until further information is given. And BTW, it appears from the reading above that this spate was among Canadians. LOL

Whewwwwwwwwww!!!

Thank God it wasn't a Dominican national that robbed and killed this guy. That's honestly the first thing that came to mind when i read the title of this article.

I knew someone was going to try and give Dominicans a bad name for this. To bad it was a Canadian on Canadian crime killing each other on Dominican soil. Somehow someone will still try to find something negative to say about Dominicans. Come'on guys, I know your out there...LoL

Jim Harrington is going to blame the Dominican bartender for serving alcohol beverages before sunset.

VeronicaDR is going to blame the unfortunate incident on Government corruption for not allowing the military to set foot on the resort.

Gmiller is on suicide watch because the killer is not Dominican.

Jim....I do resent your comments and having supported you in an objective manner from time to time, find that your comment might well divulge the true self centered and somewhat misguided person you are.

Time for you to take a look at yourself and ask...have I really lost a sense of reality? Am I no longer worthy of objective comments?

A comment like the one you have made has lowered you considerably....kind of like the North Koreans crapping on the Chinese and expecting Chinese support after the fact.

There are AHoles everywhere. The question does not appear on any immigration questionaire in any country. People need to stand-up to AHoles like the 19 yoa boy did. Had I been there, I would also have jumped in. "Some men can peacefully sleep at night because other men are willing to do violence on their behalf." Orson W. Dominicans/Canadians/Americans or anyone else are generally good people. In Canada, we live by these beliefs, but sometimes AHoles not nationalities do bad deeds. If guilty, they will enjoy the Dominican prison system's hospitality. I hope they become someone's girlfriend and that they never come back to MY country. I think that we can all feel sorrow for the young life lost. I would feel the same for an American or Dominican. Do not generalize expat deaths in the DR. In a city like Toronto or Chicago, you have more deads in a week than in the whole year in the DR.
As for JimHarrington: America, I love you but you are also entitled to your own AHoles.

For a country that welcomes over 4 million tourist in one year, 5 tourist deaths in that same year is a pretty good ratio as I am sure many would agree. So NO actually is a safe place to travel Mr. DannyDoubleIdiot who wrote "its not a safe place now before yes, not now way too many crazy drug filled guys running around. they are also killing dominicans and trying to rob them.

Please remember when posting regarding Jordan that he is loved by his family and friends and was a wonderful young man right to the end. He died protecting a young woman he did'nt even know. All he knew was she needed help and he was there. It was one man harassing a young woman then spit in her face, thats when Jordan steped in. He exchanged words with the other guy, then that guy and his friends kicked the boy in the head repeatedly until he was dead. Jordan was a very respectful person never in trouble, but aways protecting others. I can't imagine how his parents will ever make it through this, so I ask that you please keep in mind he was just a young person trying to help a stranger, something we don't see enough of in this world.

@momma,

When reading through todays post, i saw numerous people express condolences to the family of Jordan Morrison. I have not read one post where he was disrespected or a post that his family would be offended by. He was a brave young man who was killed by a few of his own countrymen. Thats the point we were trying to get across. We just don't want Canadians thinking it is unsafe to travel to the Dominican Republic cause it is not. Sure the DR has rough neighborhoods where there are many crimes committed annually, but so does every country including Canada. So please feel free to travel to all parts of the DR, it is safe, especially the resorts.

I just joined this site just to post a comment; the gang-up beating death of this young man (who could have easily been my own son) occurred because sadly amongst our youth, it has become not only accepted, but the norm, that there is no such thing as a fair one-on-one any more. I ought to know I am witness to this every day in my profession in the Canadian Justice System. 4-1 altercations happen weekly in Canadian bars and there has not been any deterrent in Canada that has put a stop to this!! Perhaps time spent serving a sentence for murder in a Dominican prison, wherein the offenders are responsible for purchasing many, if not all, the lovely items offenders are provided with free of charge in Canadian jails, will send a least a message that gang violence will not be tolerated in the DR, even when it involves the typical peace-loving Canadians eh!

This does happen in "bars around teh world", but still, it has an unfortunate reflection on this bar, and this resort, and the D.R. even if no Dominicans were involved. The point is, the resort must take all precautions to provide a safe environment for their guests. Just like the D.R. is responsibile for providing safe conditions throughout the country for tourists and countrymen. Alcohol and drugs are protential time-bombs in any location. Where was the resort's security staff? If you are going to fuel a group of people with alcohol, then understand the potential ramifications. People get into discussions that lead to voicing of opinions; all opinions don't agree with one another; thus, a dangerous formula for a heated argument. Throw in ethniticity, religions, politics, economic standards; all fueled by alcohol (which always makes us smarter), and that is now a situation out of control. The resort's security was defecient when this boiled over into a brawl

What is more important -great prices or safety? I don't know about you , but I will always pay a little bit more for security. What price do you put on someone's life, or your own for that matter?? Wake up and smell the java. At a hotel with this type of reputation, Security should be present, or at lease close enough to call when there is potential for disasters such as this. Again, fueling people with alcohol should be a pretty good indicator wouldn't you think? You mean to tell me there was no security close enough to get to his place before this brawl got out of hand and a life was lost? Then I don' want to visit this hotel under these conditions.
