SANTO DOMINGO. - A National District court scheduled the next hearing in the money laundering case against Sobeida Felix and eight codefendants for March 9, and gave the accused Ricardo Ivonovich Smester 10 days to get a defense lawyer.

The First Collegiate Court’s Penal Chamber ruled to appoint a public defender after Smester’s attorneys Manuel Moquete and Francisco Javier Azcona resigned.

Felix’s lawyer Felix Portes also told the court that he’s scheduled for surgery in two weeks, and would be unable to represent his client during that time.

And let the show begin.

Thi is simply rubbish and I am sure the lawyer knew many months ago that he needed an operation and I am sure a public defender could have been found earlier ..just delaying tactics and an appalling court system ..can you imagine this happening in the Old Bailey ...never ever

Will it start for real or will we witness an endless sequence of adjournments as in the prelim?

there is much more to this story than meets the eye ..and I think there will need to be more prosecutions as the criminal elements in the DR try to intimidate the lawyers and the judges
