Santo Domingo.- The Police continues its weeks long purge and yesterday retired “for time in service” the police colonel whose “lack of control” allowed the alleged members of the Puerto Rican murder convict Jose Figueroa Agosto’s money laundering and narcotics trafficking network to celebrate New Year’s party in Najayo prison.

Colonel Luis M. Corporán was placed on forced retirement after the Police and the Prisons Department investigated the details of the party, where photos of the inmates Ivanovich Smester, Juan Jose Fernandez Ibarra and Sammy Dauhajre appeared in the social networks, even drinking champagne.

Quoting sources, newspaper Hoy reports that Corporán acted with “negligence and lack of tact” as head of security at Najayo.

Major Luis Batista, also investigated in the case, admitted that he allowed a bag with four bottles of champagne to be smuggled into the penitentiary, delivered by Smester’s driver, and allegedly on Corporán’s instructions.

A move in the right direction. Yet, the question that haunts is how did things get this awry? Our country under Leo has fallen into a very dangerous state of moral decay. Leo is not a leader of integrity. He is a snake that has allowed DR to become a haven for criminals, drug lords, delinquents and other snakes like himself. I hope the cleansing reaches the top of the toilet and not just the bottom of the bowl.

How about the guy that allowed Luis Alvarez Renta out of jail on "day passes" over 100 times?

He should hang.

That's good.. these are baby steps we are catching small corruption fishes. Hopefully this serves as practice for landing the big fishes on corruption cases. These findings instill fear for individuals on loosing their post/job and I am sure peple will think twice before allowing stuff like this to happen.

Here is part of the problem. Someone gets found to be "too corrupt" to keep their job. How about do your job and if you are found to be doing things you shouldn't you lose your job and go to jail? These idiots simply get retirement? What a joke of a justice system we have.

Below is the recommendation I made via my post on 4 Jan 2011 -- I'm glad they heeded my input. Heck, who's to say they heeded my input, but I'm glad they did something.

Miami/Santiago,
Man, it's exhausting being Dominican. Why are we the only country in the world where the principle of accountability doesn't exist? This problem will never be fixed until we learn the concept of firing the head MF in charge -- in this case the Jail Director, or at minimum, the most Senior Officer in Charge of the Watch when the event happened. It's discusting -- these people sell themselves for nothing."

I am just wondering does these inmates sleep with girls? In DR, you just need to have money and then, you could own the world theoretically.

I like DR, but I hate the way that Lieonel allows these happen.

So what? Not a big deal.....

In DR, in Prison, you can have girls to sleep with you, live in the suit treatment, ....you name it, you got it ....

The only thing is "US Dollar" or "Euro"...... simple and easy...

This is a situation which should not be tolerated anytime. The officer must have been shamed with what he felt.
