The Russians are coming...all of them.
Santo Domingo. – A Russian citizen’s purchase of a stolen pistol used to gun down Police colonel Virgilio Casilla has prompted the authorities’ interest on the number of individuals from that nation who live in the Dominican Republic, mainly since the Antinarcotics Agency (DNCD) began to report the arrests of people headed to Moscow carrying drugs.
Since 2000 intelligence agencies register 1,144 Russians, 473 of which have permanent residence, confirmed by Immigration Agency sources quoted by news source eldia.com.do, which reports that many of the Russians live the resort regions of Puerto Plata and Punta Cana.
The investigation began with the arrest of the Russian Mikail Sulin, who allegedly paid RD$100,000 for a pistol used in the officer’s homicide, but was released on bond by Puerto Plata judge Yakaira Vélez.
DNCD files show that 12 Russians are currently in Dominican prisons, mainly in Higuey (east).

First, how did the pistol become 'stolen'?? Should it not have been locked away as 'evidence'?? That has to be one of the most bizarre and unfortunate cases I have heard in a long time.

They should check on the multimillion investments by Russians in some areas.
Nah, they won't do that.
Might as well collect that hush money.

Two years ago I was in Sosua and it amazed me how many Russians are living in Sosua and Cabarette. Plus, they are buying everything in site with cash.
You will also notice a lot of stray dogs missing in the North also.

Dear BernardJeanPierre,
You should really read the articles that have been posted in the newspaper since Jan 21. Lt. Colonel Casilla Miyalla was killed and the killers took his pistol with them an them sold it to Mr. Mikail Sulin who should be in jail with all the people involved in his killing.

If you want to see Russian investment, head to the town of Juan Dolio. I was there at the beach recently and almost every abandoned building is being bought by them and refurbished as luxury apartments. There are so few buyers right now and most of these apartments are empty. They have to get rid of their tons and tons of cash somehow. Aren't they the number 1 gangsters in New York right now?
