NEW YORK.- Several Dominican restaurants which since their debut in the area of Upper Manhattan’s Dyckman avenue attract thousands of patrons from the city, New Jersey and New England states are now under the target of neighbors and community activists who complain about the din from those businesses in the dawn hours.
Though the sector is one of Washington Heights’ quiets, next to the Seaman, Payton and Broadway avenues, the locals some of whom have been there for decades complain they cannot get accustomed to the current situation.
The Daily News Between reports that the Mamajuana Coffee, Sushi Restaurant Mama, Sole, Papasito Mexican Grill and Agave Bar are among the din makers.
But those businesses have revitalized the nightlife of a zone traditionally known as the city’s “raggers,” where cheap garment vendors, bodegas, fritter stands and 0.99 cent stores give it a life of its own.
The noisy eateries reflect a problem many Dominicans have to deal with in their hometowns, where the authorities often confiscate music equipment and chairs and tables in colmados and colmadones for excess noise.

How can you make such an ignorant comment about Mofongo - not sure where you ate it but its made from mashed plantains and can be meat- fish - chicaron- pork - garlic - depends on what you want - but to just say something so stupid is incredible- get your facts straight and go try a real dominican restaurant - the food is delicious and very very healthy

lots of meetings going on with the community and the restaurant owners, {which is a good thing} "they are trying to develop a culture in the area where they can get people to behave in certain ways so these business can be as successful as possible and people can still sleep upstairs".
people need to have respect for other people and their rights.

Dominican food is good tasting, but not mostly healthy....809, Mamajuana and Mama Shushi (I've been to all of them) serve great food...at times a bit over priced for the area...but good tasting...

I've personally hung out at some of these places myself. I find myself around dyckman pretty often and I have to admit it can be kindof loud but its fun lolz. There's nothing better then going to a lounge then going over to dyckman express at 3 or 4am for some mangu or rice and chicken. Lolz
