Santo Domingo.- The return of ex president Jean Bertrand Aristide to Haiti today, as reported by AFP, may mark the resumption of the distrust which marked his Administration’s relations with the par of its Hispaniola neighbor, Dominican Republic, during his term in office.
Aristide, who ended seven years of exile in South Africa, arrived 9:19 a.m. local time aboard a plane provided by that nation’s Government, accompanied by his wife, two daughters and U.S. actor Danny Glover amid shouts of joy from a throng of hundreds gathered to receive him in the Port-au-Prince’s international airport.
The former Catholic priest had spent several years in a Dominican seminary and ushered out of his country by the U.S. during a 2004 uprising, but he’s still enormously popular in his troubled Caribbean nation.
United States president Barack Obama had tried to keep the former Head of State away from his country until after Sunday’s presidential elections, on fears that the controversial the ex chief executive would destabilize the process.

He should have stayed in South Africa.
As a matter of fact, he should have been extradited to the US, for having turned Haiti into the major drug trans-shipment point it has become. Only the US doesn't extradite ex-heads of state, to the exception of Manuel Noriega. Only, Noriega did a no-no thing. He Bucked with the Fush. So did Saddam..
Anyway, his reign was characterized by total incompetence, political assasinations, major unrest and economic chaos. Minustah was formed to take over the country on account of the mess he had created.
This man is bad news. He still can do a lot of damage.

Haiti will not find stability until it has a leader who has credibility with the large majority of poor Haitians, not just the Haitian elite, the US and the "international community." Aristide had many flaws but at least he was trying to govern for the majority of Haitians, which brought him into conflict with the US and the Haitian elite, which do not have a commitment to changing the status quo.

Most likely if Mr Aristide endorse anybody before sunday it will be Mirland Manigat , if that's the case all bets are off for Mickey. Although Mr Aristide did not do anything for the poor of Haiti he gave them a voice. Something nobody have done before, Having a double major in Theology and PSY have served him well in that regard. Nobody can give a speech in creole to the masses like him ,listening to his performance today as he arrived in Haiti he still got it. Lets hope during his 7 years in South Africa the greatest Statesman of them all Madiba ,better knowing to the world as Nelson Mandela have rubbed on him a little bit. The good news is according to the Haitian Constitution he cannot run for President again, his political party is in shamble, yes due to his popularity he can still be a king Maker as he should have been ,instead of the Dictator by popularity he was trying to be.

Danny Glover is not Haitian, but since it is something that has to do with black people, I mean helping a black nation that have endured exploitations, oppressions, criminalization by the U.S. and some members in the UN, therefore, he feels appall about that and want to help the best he can. At least, that's what I believe as a Haitian.
From: Haiti
Have you ever wondered why these ex-Presidents always want to get back to Haiti? They do nothing for the people but make false promises. They want the misery to exist because it leaves room for more dreamy promises. Aristide failed his people and his country and has made a long list of attorneys and lobbyists like Ira K. richer millionaires. They spend Haiti's meager resources fighting (lobbying) to sit in the President's seat. How selfish can you be? I just came back from Haiti today and I drove by Aristide's house and the place was freshly painted and the boundary walls were adorned with thousands of high flying flags. There are no jobs in Haiti and the rich keep exploiting the poor.
All flags in Haiti should fly at half mast until poor Haitians are treated fairly.

By respect to "his" country and to the election procedure, he and the other "Bozo the clown" should have had the intelligence to stay out until after the election. It is easy, as a weak leader, to come into a country that doesn't really have a leader to be and cause even more instability.

Glad to see tidtid has his own Hollywood actor just like Obama, Chavez, etc.
And what's this drumbeat about Haiti having been oppressed from outside?
It was the 3rd Republic since Rome (1804 depending), totally independent since then.
So what's the beef?
That their years of invasions and depredations into Spanish Hispaniola didn't, in the end, work?
Anything done to them has been by themselves.

they might not be your kids, but its eveyone's village.
their is a baptist church in opa-locka florida, the hosanna community foundation which services the liberty city, brownsville and little haiti neighborhood's, then we have the world-famous new york academic community- the harlem childrens zone.
students at the hcz, as with hosanna, are taught to not let society or circumstances trick them into presuming failure. in both of these programs, the kids are overwhelming black and and poor, but yet they graduate high school at the rate of 93%... how is this possible??/

intensive after school, evening and weekend study and volunteerism with drill-sergeant-like mentors, tudors and family-life coaches, parents, no matter their personal circumstances, are required to participate on every level, this means talking to the teachers regulary, helping their kids with their homework or learning at their kids side's
its easy for all of us to say its not my problem they are not my kids.but if we don't help these kids keep them self's on track academically then you are punishing them for their parents and their parents, parents, shortcomings.

so as i see this problem it seems at some point we need
education on both sides of the borders for the young.
and it would seem to me that we cant wait for these governments to supply this education for the young.
people need to start their own groups and start to help the young and put them on the right road to travel in life
the world is passing by fast for both countries
we need to help our self's if outside help comes all the better but with all the problems in the world today dont hold your breath..
