Santo Domingo.- The country’s used auto dealers grouped in Anadive yesterday affirmed that the criticism on the imports of those vehicle by the agencies of the manufacturers grouped in Acofave looks only to benefit that sector.
Acofave spokeman Carlos de los Santos said the cars Anadive sells can be converted to natural gas, and currently has around 40,000 vehicles which can be adapted right now, to help the Government’s effort to save fuel.
He said they are ready to meet with the Government and the transport sector to discuss the possibility of Anadive supplying the vehicles for conversion to natural gas.

Hydrogen generators in everyones homes, we can run boilers for hot water, fill tanks in cars that will run for 400miles, all on tap water and a solar panel to charge it. Hydrogen can be used for welding and cooking, the sky's the limit on this application. But, then again, education is required and its something the dominican government doesn't want.....
Plus, it wont ignite under impact and posses less harm for the environment.

Roberto,
Roberto Jose,
Your comment on the Hydrogen was excellent. Can you actually do all that right now? I have been following the Hydrogen craze in the last few years as I have always been a renewable energy fanatic but still find hollow areas in the subject.
If why have Hydrogen facilities as you mention avail. Can you convert an existing car engine to use HYDROGEN?
I tried in vain to come up with Renewable energy options in Dom. Rep. a few years back. Lots of consumer education is needed.

@Roberto Jose
I'm a big supporter of using H2 for energy.
The problem is to hydrolyze water, you need more AC than the final output in H2 will yield.
Energy wasted as heat, electrode capacity, cost of electricity as "raw Material" in DR are obstacles.
Please tell me there are now H2 generators worth buying for household use..

YES SIR!!!!!!!
I have been looking into it for a while now, but the system is expensive 10grand USD . Someone made a prototype work on a corvette 4.2 v8 and it ran for 400 miles on a charge with 4 bottles smaller than a divers tank and when done hit a switch to go back to gasoline. These guys made the system to charge on solar power 2x4 panel .

yes I think the government should subsidise the conversion of vehicles to natural gas ..

There are some USA DOT Approved conversion systems for CNG. It may be a while, that a regular consumer can afford to buy a H2 generator for the home. We are close, but not that close.
If the US has DOT approved conversion systems that are safe, it can work in Dom. Rep.

Just by the DOT considering approval makes it plausible in DR, has anyone seen how these conchos have these tanks jerry-rigged behind the back seat. Its like shooting dice when gettinginto one of these things........ Geewizz

Its all about the money under the table. There are some things that will not change any time soon in Latin America.
The unfortunate thing is that an innocent family will get hit by one of this idiots and just walk away while leaving an injured family that had nothing to do with a jerry-rigged CNG install like the ones you mention.
That is why I decided to stay in USA, after going over there and experienced how daily life really works... Not worth it!

Better just to prohibit import of cars; or issue special licenses like
Singapore; Hong Kong; Shanghai.
Better public transport is needed - not more cars.

natural gas and propane are not the same things. glomarexplorer is far better equipped than i am to explain the niceties of the subject, but i will give my limited explanation. what we have running around in the DR is propane conversions. they are fairly simple, and relatively safer to accomplish, because the gas is stored under far less pressure. natural gas should be done by accomplished, certified technicians, not shade tree greasemonkeys. the tanks are very expensive, because they have to withstand greater pressure. the actual fuel distribution system is more complex, and so the actual conversion will end up costing, at a minimum, around 1000 US Dollars. glomar..help...

Natural gas vehicles are most environment friendly vehicles, natural gas is free and reliable and is the cleanest burning fuel and is less expensive than other vehicles.
