Santo Domingo.– A total of 6,361,258 Dominican citizens are eligible to vote in the 20 May 2012 presidential election, the Central Electoral Board (JCE) said.
According to the institution, the figure represents 244,861 more voters than the list for the 2010 congressional election. The JCE also pointed out that by May 2012, the voting list could reach 6,507,468 total voters.
Last month the Chamber of Deputies approved the vote by Dominicans abroad to elect the President, the Vice president and several deputies, turning the bill into law since it had already passed in the Senate.
The Law stipulates that the Dominicans will be able to vote in the 2012 presidential elections and for seven overseas deputies: two representatives in the Caribbean basin and Latin America; three in the United States and Canada, and two in Europe.
