Santo Domingo.- The situation in Dominican Republic’s major opposite party (PRD) deteriorated even further Tuesday, when despite an attempt to mediate by Panama ex president Martin Torrijos and other important personalities such as the veteran politico Hatuey De Camps and the tycoon Tony Rivera, its Political Commission “summarily” expelled Convention Commission president Emmanuel Esquea.

A source quoted by media outlet elnuevodiario.com.do said in addition to Esquea, Milagros Ortiz Bosch, Teófilo - Quico- Tabar, Hugo Tolentino Dipp and the other PRD convention Commissioners would also be expelled.

The source added that senior leaders plan to proclaim current PRD president Miguel Vargas as the party’s presidential candidate on April 30, according what they agreed in a meeting.

The PRD party should just evaporate. They are the worst party in Dominican history...It's always a power struggle & who gets to rob the country first mentality.

The PRD needs a FDR-like leader. Someone who can lift the country up to greatness. These charlatans only care about how they can fleece the country and get rich.

Back in the early 1980's a close relative who was looking for a position in the upcoming administration of Salvador Jorge Blanco of the PRD, made a comment to me regarding corruption in the gov't which I found very offensive and disheartening.

They said to me : "if I get this position I am not going to steal like the people in the Partido Reformista, I'll steal just a little". This relative (by marriage ), seemed to think that sinning a little was ok since the norm was to get as much as one could.

My family, being a military family had always espoused the virtues of honesty and the worst a family member could do was to steal. " El que es fiel en lo poco es fiel en lo mucho" my mother would always say to me growing up. As I left the DR at the time I remember thinking if that's the attitude prevalent in this PRD party which at the time was the main opposition party they are not going to last long in power. 4. Yrs later the Dominican people reelected Balaguer and the Reformis

Vargas is really a member of PLD and a flunky for LF. So, he causes this problem to guarantee that PRD will never make it. The blame rests with Vargas
