Santo Domingo.- The pollster Asisa Research Group said the opposition PRD party leader and ex president Hipolito Mejia will win the convention Sunday, with 64%, to 36% for Miguel Vargas, president of that political organization and former Public Works minister.
Asisa said since the balloting will take place with a semi open registry, their survey conducted in the last week in February excluded members of other parties, as well as potential voters who affirmed that they will not vote in the convention,.
The pollster also notes that when it included those who were “somewhat sure” of voting, the intention of vote for Vargas falls to 33%, with the remaining 67% would vote for Mejia.
It added that Mejia may surpass that projection by the end of this week.

I wonder if this research group were paid by the Mejia camp ...it was several weeks ago that the Vargas camp released a reseach result favouring him and the Mejia camp released another favouring Mejia ...just in an attempt to sway the non committed towards the winning camp.
Sorry about the double post ..had a wobbly finger.

Let's face it, they are all crap, they are all corrupt, they are all morons. Either we need a new system or we need to accept that we get the "best of the worst"... Now hey, that's a great campaign slogan!!!!!

PLD is like letting the school be run by the student council.
PRD is letting the school be run by the reprobates.
Mejia is unable to assimilate the data of what has become a very complex government. He just doesn't have the mental capacity.
Much less control and change it for the best.
He'll be too busy giving jobs to a million cronies.

To be completely honest i believe that no politician in the DR has an international appeal to be president. Hipolito is a hick that cant even speak right and makes fun of the problems at hand, and dont forget the way he handled the country last time around that animal. Miguel is a rich boy that has nothing better to do with his time and since in the DR politicians run the show he want to be the top dog, miguel you are also an ignorant speechless thief who wants to be president just for pride. Fernandez may not be perfect because corruptions seems to be legal during he stints and is also a thief and a suck up of international governments but is the smartest and most qualify one to run the country but i do not favor reelection because is against the law and they need to start respecting it. DR needs to fix the lack of education and maybe then we can count on a decent government. LOS POLITICOS DOMINICANOS SON LOS POLITICOS QUE HABLAN MAS FEO E INCORRECTO EN EL MUNDO

In a vacuum, the political system in the Dr, would be admirable.
However, it is like groundhog day on LSD.
As Rome burns, the political system here regurgitates up the same candidates, election after election.
Even with term limits, even with the corruption, crime, poverty, horrible living conditions that exist, the best that can be hoped for is LF to win again.
This is a mockery disguised as a democracy. However, as seen in Egypt, anarchy is worse yet.

When Dominicans take to the streets like the Arabs are doing, is when I will start believing that we really want honest government. Until then it is just more bla, bla, bla!

wont happen, Juan. one of the problems with the DR, as opposed to places like Egypt, is that too many people here are beholden to the political system. in Egypt, the autocrats and their immediate circles had a stranglehold on power , and influence. in the DR, everyone has some access to some politician. there are myriad diputados, senadores, regidores, you name it. there are 10 deputy ministers of sports. every guy in the country knows someone who can help get him a job, or buy him out of jail, or help him get a visa,or get some bogus title to a piece of land. Dominicans are comfortable with that system. they are prepared to take turns. when the PLD is in power, Belkis will be the principal of the local school. when they get booted, it will be Radhames´s turn. but it works, and gives everyone hope of fleeting salad days. nope...there will be no Robespierre, i am afraid.

It really is terrible living in the DR , you can say anything you want , you can write anything you want , you can grizzle all the time , there are free and internationally supervised elections and any one can join a political party or even start a new political party when ever they want . There are no street curfews and you can be as individual as you please ,

nice. this coming from some guy who lives out in the salubrious surroundings of La Romana, and does not have to worry where the next plate of tostones is coming from. sounds almost cynical to me. yes, Ricky. free elections. not really. they are bought and paid for by the treasury funds which are given to the hucksters to buy votes with Brugal and chivos, in case you did not know.

Ricardolito, there will never be an Egyptian style revolution here, because of what Walter just stated. nobody wants to see basic change in the way things are done. Dominicans do not like change. status quo is good enough. the only change they want is from PLD to PRD, or vice versa, so they and their fellow travellers can get their turn at the trough. election season is also pretty exhilerating, because that is when guys like Aristy come by with the trucks full of geese and Brugal, and give out bonogas cards. the 500 pesos also helps.

The same cycle just keeping everyone uneducated and in the dark. How about a real change? The best candidate so far is Wilton Guerrero for President. At least the guys speaks up about against the corrupt government officials he works with. Maybe he will work for the rest of us and not himself and his friends he owes favors to.
We need new leadership and a working justice system. Then we need to go after all the corruption in our government and take back all their stolen assets that belong to the people and not to them! Take it all back and get us out of the dark with a real electric system that provides 24/7 power to the population. The main people not paying are the government and the rich who easily can afford it. Then educate the masses and provide better free medical care. We pay extremely high taxes on all purchases and that money should be spent on the population not making corrupt politicians rich!

how in the world is hipolito mejia going to be the prd representative of the party if he was the one that damaged most of the image of prd and embarassed all prd voters, while they voted for leonel for change. Its time for someone new to lead dr back ono the right path to insure that MIGUEL VARGAS is the MAN to do it. Over here in the bronx, ny results are saying that Miguel Vargas has won most of the precinct over by a large amount of votes while some precincst were to very close to call but miguel vargas voters manage to pull off the win.
at least 5 precinct were around 50-55% miguel while hipolito was around the 43-49 %
the rest of the precinct had miguel vargas exceeding well above 60% to hipolito not getting or barely reaching 40%

nice informercial, jaydominican. maybe you would like to tell us why it is you think that Vargas is any better than Hippo. he seems to have an integrity issue, from what i gather. now, if you believe that integrity has no place in governance, maybe he is the right choice.
