SANTO DOMINGO.- The ruling PLD party’s top echelon last night approved to convene its Central Committee for Sunday, March 20, to choose the hopefuls for its presidential candidacy in the 2012 elections, just hours after the opposition party, PRD, selected ex president Hipolito Mejia as their contender.

The PLD Political Committee will make official the preliminary campaigns of those seeking to head the ticket in the presidential elections, General Secretary Reinaldo Pared announced after the meeting.

He said the CP also agreed that a plebiscite to confirm or repeal the PLD authorities will also be held on the date of the primaries to choose the presidential candidate, as approved in the preparations for its next convention.
