Dajabón, Dominican Republic.- Dominican Republic authorities today detained eight people, charged with retaining nine Haitian children in a hotel and a house in Dajabón province, next to the border with Haiti.

Quoting a Border Security (Cesfront) source, the agency Efe said the minors, some of them as young as four months, were rescued from four women and four men all Haitian nationals, who were allegedly going to use them in forced labor.

The Efe source said the children were apparently headed to the city of Santiago.

North Region Immigration Agency director Juan Isidro Perez told Efe that the authorities are taking drastic actions against traffickers of Haitians into Dominican Republic.

How can anyone view a 4 month old child as a 'tool' for making money??? I'm glad the children were rescued and I hope ALL those involved are brought to justice. smh!

"Quoting a Border Security (Cesfront) source, the agency Efe said the minors, some of them as young as four months, were rescued from four women and four men all Haitian nationals, who were allegedly going to use them in forced labor."

All are Haitian nationals. The practice of utilizing these poor innocent beings has its tragic origins in HAITI, not the DR. The value of human life has so depressed itself in Haiti that people have for many years now reverted to selling their own or stealing from others innocent humans to barter and trade. Yes, there are some Dominicans that engage in this inhumanity, but the epicenter and origins are in Haiti. The societal collapse and environmental degradations have reached such levels that human slavery is thought better than taking the risk of living without sin! Tragic.

The Dominican authorities will do well to focus their attention at dislodging DR from the inferno that is Haiti because try as it may, DR will always be blamed.

Danny 00, it is not hate my friend, it is the simple fact that this cannot be allowed to continue. I know the situation across the border is sad, but the DR has to take action to bring law enforcement to the border region, these children are brought into the country to live in dreadful conditions and besides people that are capable of using children to make a profit should be dealt with drastically.

This case offers a good opportunity to enlighten the world community as to the Real plight and where it stems from on the island of Hispaniola. For too long DR has been playing defense in regards to its Human Rights record, especially so when Haitians are concerned. So I say let's be smart and have a Dominican crew make a professional documentary that offers this crucial side of the story for the international Community to observe what the real dynamics are behind this terrible inhumanity. Let them follow the words of these 8 Haitian traffickers and the story those left behind in Haiti. Let the international Community hear their voices; why they sold their "loved-ones." Why they engaged in this inhumanity. Call it "9 Children For Sale: A look into the Modern Haitian Slave Trade."

DR will not turn the international Community to its side by playing defense; it needs to go on the offense, but with professionalism and quality. The data and sources are there; Just DO IT
