Santo Domingo.- Transport businessman Ramon Perez Figuereo announced Monday that the associations of bus owners grouped in the CNTU will start a series of protests on Tuesday, to demand lower fuel prices.

He said the protests will be staged at the government’s Technical Transport Office, the Industry and Commerce Ministry, the Congress and the National Palace.

Perez, owned of the notorious transport business leaders the media call "owners of the country," added that the affiliated drivers also support the fight for a 30% increase in wages as the labor unions demand.

So let me get this right. His strikes will force the prices of fuel to drop.

Hmmmm, bring him to the U.S., then Europe, South America, Canada as the official idiot spokesman.

I'm sure the Big Oil companies will be intimidated.

This Perez guy seems real ignorant. I bet he lives better than his drivers.

Lots of the people don't know what is going on out side their country. The price of fuel is not set by the government it is set by the price of world oil. The president of Dominican Republic could not convince the world price of oil to go down. Why protest at someone who can't do anything about the problem.

And Chavez sells us oil at what price? Not international prices. The diff. is in the pocket for Fernandez. One of the reasons he is worth now over a Billion $$$US

I too thought the cozy relationship with Chavez would help equate to lower fuel prices but obviously I was mistaken. When there is money to be made off the people by the government and/or big oil companies...............please bend over just a little more

LF is worth a Billion US$ ?

Is there not that law that demands transparency in Dominican Officials' financial affairs (including the President)?

That is utterly impossible considering he is a doctor from the Dominican and has done very little but backwardize and bankrupt the country for the past 20 or so years.

(Knock, knock. Who's there? The IMF/WorldBank - gimme all your money and resources)

He should be deep in debt to his countrymen and women for the pain and suffering he has caused the last few years. (Damn, my power just went out - like the 6 million a day in the DR who just want to be treated with civility and given a chance to make it in this world)

Does the Dominican have a media with any balls to do the real investigative work? I bet 99% of all officials are living well beyond the "true means" given to them by the electorate. Shame on everyone who just watches as the rich get super rich, an the poor hustle and die.
