NEW YORK.- Marcos R. Tejada is poised to be the first Dominican to win a seat in Canada’s Parliament and according to his campaign team, has a strong possibility of being elected over his nearest rival.

Tejada, a native of Moca, northern Espaillat province, runs in the race in the Montreal district of Papineu and is a candidate of the New Democrat Party (PND).

The candidate, who has gained fame in Canada for being a staunch community and immigrants’ rights activist, says he’ll win the bench thanks to the votes of the Latinos in Montreal, an affirmation backed by the most recent polls.

Tejada expects a win in the federal elections to choose Canada’s lawmakers slated for May 2, when he could become the first Dominican to reach such a high post.

RCMP are investigating the allegations, which involve four restaurants, including a small family-run Italian eatery in the city’s west end.
The owners of that restaurant told police that they received a visit from an auditor who commented on how busy their business was. Shortly after that, the owners said they received a letter from the Canada Revenue Agency noting their restaurant was about to be audited. They were told to speak with a specific auditor.
The auditor told them they were in serious trouble. He met with the couple in a park near their restaurant and told them they were on the hook for $250,000. He then offered to make the problem go away if they paid him $50,000 in cash.
The restaurant owners asked their accountant for advice and it was soon discovered that the original letter from the agency about the audit was a fake, according to police.
Three other restaurants reported similar experiences. In one case, the son of an owner was told it would take $90,000 to make the

@JimHarrington

I don't know where you got your sources, but check out credible ones, where Canada ranks in the top 7 corruption-free countries.

That anecdote about false audits reveals there are crooks in Canada as elsewhere in the world, but does not indicate institutional graft like in DR.

Get your facts straight.

@JH

My halfwit brain earned me a law degree in McGill University. BCL and LLL.

Last time I looked, it was still in Montreal Canada. So a clue I have.

I'd rather refer to Canada as a socialist country run by civil servants.

And I wouldn't know about the female thing. All high-ranking politicians are male, all the more under the Conservative government.

At any rate, they're hard-ass when it comes to visas.

Is that the reason for your grudge?

Please check for real truths BEFORE you start your rant.
Thank you!
PS...Your lovely USA is crumbling.
I can understand your jealousy.
Have a great day & come & visit us or the North Coast (DR) please.

I hate to break to you guys, but Marcos is running a distant third to a Haitian woman Vivian Barbot.

According to the Montreal Gazette: "The NDP candidate, Marcos R. Tejada has been strangely absent in Papineau. (the area where he iss running for office.

Marcos Tejada missed an all-candidates debate in the riding on Monday as well as another debate organized by a Muslim community association earlier in the campaign."
