Santo Domingo.- Ruling PLD party presidential candidacy hopeful Francisco Dominguez Brito on Wednesday rebuked ex president Hipólito Mejía’s warning that he would “lock up” this Administration’s corrupt officials, noting that the fight against corruption isn’t a “joke.”

“Any process that persecutes transparency and an effective fight against corruption cannot be handled as if it was a tale, a joke or mockery," said the former Justice Minister. “If we want to seriously fight corruption we must improve the control mechanisms, to strengthen the Accounts Chamber and the General Controller’s Office."

Dominguez said the rule of law must be the norm regarding public contracts, planning and budget. “Impunity must be inadmissible in any system that seeks to be effective against corruption; those who err must assume their responsibility in accordance with the nation’s state of Law."

He called that type of statement, like Mejía’s, regretful, because the only thing it does is discredit the effective fight against corruption.

Another clown opening his mouth before an election. It seems that corruption will be the topic of the next election and how to combat it. Then like a miracle nothing will happen again for another 4 years..

The guy was frickin' Attorney General.

He could have done something in his time. Didn't have the balls.

Instead, he accepted a hush hush job in the Senate.

And now, he wants us to believe he'd do what was his job if elected.

"Corruption not a joke"

To you Dominicans it is. That's why the rest of the world thinks you are a joke.

Your corruption is completely transparent an NONE of you have the balls to enforce the pathetic laws you do have.

All Dominicans do is talk, talk, talk.

So he says he's gonna fight it with more offices, more programs, more Yipetas, more bureau-rats?

As stated in his Wikipedia page, "promoting deep and far-reaching reforms both in terms of organization and in the direction of the criminal investigation" and "establishing Ethic Committees" as well as upgrading "technology and providing education and training" all sound like exceptional and very promising reforms, however they're meaningless to the average Dominican, and ironically are actually quite beneficial to government cronies and shady businesses because when it counts the most all these measures fall by the wayside due to lack of willingness by Attorney Generals such as yourself, Sir, to actually enforce the very same laws/measures you've helped establish. And thus, a never-ending cycle of impunity repeats itself....

With regards to the issue of corruption in government and how to combat, prosecute and prevent it. it seems to me that in two periods mentioned below no one in government was actually investigated, prosecuted and successfully convicted.

Francisco Domínguez Brito
District Attorney of Santo Domingo (1997-2000)

Francisco Domínguez Brito
Attorney General of the Dominican Republic (2004-2006)

If elected would either dare to investigate and subsequently prosecute officials in their respective parties ??? doubtful.

Tony, it is because of political corruption that there are no jobs, and little foreign investment. at least, in part.

It can not be helped its the faulty wire in the brain that all Dominicans are born with. I am convinced of this . There brain is normal except for a missing wire. They do not think being corrupt, lying is bad or wrong. They think its normal. They can not help themselves. Its called

"Dominican Missing-Wire Syndrome"

Finding a Dominican official who isn't corrupt and a liar is a difficult task. We need to find one and make them President. This idiot had his chance already as did LF and as did "Papa". Actions speak louder than words. When are we going to see a Dominican President who isn't corrupt? isn't a complete liar? isn't in bed with drug dealers? isn't thinking about how he can make him and his friends as much money as possible while screwing over the people who elected him?

What a joke you all are just shut up already nobody believes you!
