La Romana, Dominican Republic.- One of the two men gunned down Saturday night  in the parking lot of a cockfight arena in Higüey was the nephew of Pascual Jesus Cabrera Ruiz, who’s being questioned in Puerto Rico in connection with the Jose David Figueroa Agosto’s crime network and to the drug trafficking defendant Ramon  del Rosario Puente (Toño Leña).

Amador Cabrera Sánchez (Sandy), 40, and Carlos Jiménez Silvestre (Papi Chiva), 29, died of several shots next to the arena Santa Cruz de Gato, in the community Benedicto, where Julián Rijo, 27, was seriously injured. Cabrera Sánchez is Cabrera Ruiz’s nephew.

This gangland style murder is linked to the case of Ismael Cabrera, another nephew of Cabrera Ruiz, who was believed to be gunned down by hired killers in July, 2010, in a business in Carolina, Puerto Rico.

Sandy’s uncle, Cabrera Ruiz had fled to Puerto Rico after the shooting death of Alfredo Rodriguez (Niño Pata Corta) in March last year. After the crime, the

Drugs Control Agency (DNCD) linked the victim to “Toño Leña," also a native  of Guaymate, and who awaits the Supreme Court’s ruling on the U.S. request for his extradition.

Cabrera Ruiz had been convicted, along with other defendants, to 30 years in prison in 1998, for drug trafficking, a ruling overturned by the Supreme Court.

The latest shooting brings the gangland murders linked to Figueroa’s criminal network to at least six.
