Santo Domingo - United States Embassy Commercial attaché Christopher Lambert swore in 51 new Volunteer Technicians of the Peace Corp in Dominican Republic, in a activity held in the Pantoja Training Center.

The Peace Corp helps communities identify their most pressing needs, set goals, and to then find their own resources and methods to reach or exceed those goals.

“Each Volunteer is really an “Ambassador for Development and good Will” between American and Dominican people,” Lambert said.

Would be nice if the number were 5,000. The needs are too great for 50 good minded individuals to dent. But 50 is better than 40,...

Agriculture needs serious attention as too much pesticide usage may close export markets for DR products.

Schools need great help and learning English as a second language will offer kids better future options. Teachers need to upgrade their skills and administrators, too.

"The Peace Corp helps communities identify their most pressing needs"

And report faithfully to their CIA Big Brother back at the Farm.

No wonder they're assigned to agriculture.

Never liked this "swearing in" business - who do they swear allegiance to the US President, the US government, the CIA?. The community should come first

"The Peace Corp helps communities identify their most pressing needs, set goals, and to then find their own resources and methods to reach or exceed those goals. "

- provided it fits in with USA foreign policy,

To answer my own post:

"[state your name], do solemnly swear or affirm that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, domestic and foreign, that I take this obligation freely and without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion, and that I will well and faithfully discharge my duties in the Peace Corps by working with the people of [the host country] as partners in friendship and in peace."

So the the Constitution of the United States comes first!

Ignorance is bliss. My son and many friends served in the Peace Corps. There is no connection to the CIA in spite of the doom sayer above

So Derek why the need to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States". I don't know of any other organisation that does this.
