SANTO DOMINGO.- The National District court Monday sentenced Leavy Nin Batista, wife of Puerto Rican murder convict Jose Figueroa Agosto, to five years in prison for conspiracy, money laundering and forgery, though a plea deal with prosecutors suspends two and a half years of jail time.
Second Instruction Court judge Claribel Nivar sent Nin to the jail at Najayo, where the terms of the plea deal state that she must learn a trade, submit herself to the vigilance of a San Cristóbal province judge, provide community services in a state or charity institution, and the confiscation of the assets she admits result from illicit activities.
Although scheduled for 4 p.m., the sentence was read starting 11:50 p.m. with Nivar’s arrival, and concluded to at 12:05 a.m.
In her arraignment after she surrendered and returned to the country from Spain, Nin pleaded guilty to charges of forming part of her husband’s, and testified that all the defendants in the case knew and had dealings with Figueroa.

What a pathetic country.
"she must learn a trade". How about 95% of your government, armed services and police force.
What shame, I would think that a "KING PIN" who had DNCD and high RANKING officials killed would get 25 years to lifetime. I mean, this guy did worse than raping a child...He filled the streets with blood bath while he was getting it on with peoples wives..
This is why I'm PROUD OF BEING AN AMERICAN. THE JURY DECIDES YOUR FATE.
IN DR THE CORRUPTED POLITICIANS & LOW LIFE JUDGES SELL THERE CONSCIENCE FOR MONEY AND POWER...
Only a crazy person would take this trial seriously!
This is show business of the "PRETENDED FAIR TRIAL" in DR's justice system.
Excellent deal for her and yet she could have suite facilities arranged by paying money while she stays in Najayo.
