Santo Domingo.– As part of a continued coordinated work by Dominican institutions, authorities
launched a series of measures to stop the entrance of undocumented people from the Dominican-Haitian
border into Santo Domingo.
The military and the
migration authorities started inspecting public and private transportation
vehicles in four major highways leading to the capital.
The authorities said they had arrested many undocumented immigrants, but did not release specific numbers."The
goal of the mission is to impede the mobility of undocumented
immigrants into the capital, mainly those coming from the border," the
army's intelligence service said in a statement.

Whatever it takes, keep them out, send them back and punish all involved. We must protect Quisqueya La Bella from this infestation, invasion and stop these backward illegals from doing to our country what they have done to theirs.
It is absloutely necessary. We as a country cannot absorb these creatures and we cannot provide for their needs.
My applause to the authorities for this action.

I beleave that every country has the right to defend it's borders. Only the ignorant can say that illegal Haitians don't cause a major problem for a country that can't really take care of it's own. Unfortunately it all comes down to what every problem in DR is caused by and that is Corruption, moving illegal Haitins in to DR is major business. The reality is that all of the agencies that must fight the illegal immigration are involved in the business of bringing in the illegal Haitians. CarmenReyes I understand your pain as Dominicans it hurts us to see what is happening. But were I think you most wrong is by beleaving that Lieonel and the most corrupt gov in the history of DR are really going to do anything other than lie they aren't going go give up all the money. Every time I see all the problems DR has I feel nothing but sadness but also anger because the Corrupt and people who love a party regardless of political party are the ones to blame.

sadly, Carmen, in large measure, the illegal Haitian problem is a simple matter of supply and demand. Dominicans want cheap laborers. Haiti supplies them. if Dominicans were not hiring these people, they would not be here. it is just like the guy who steals the radio from your car. if nobody bought it, he would seek his income elsewhere.

I agree with both Dread and ABC, and I agree that the Haitian labor has been productive. But enough is enough. DR has to stop the Haitian Tsunami, otherwise the DR will also go under water.
Some Haitians can stay, as long as they have documentation, pay taxes, and obey the laws.
But, speaking for the poorest DR population, directly affected by the Haitian invasion, that lacks the physical resistance, that the Haitians have, become unemployed, because the Haitians can work harder and for less, that they can.
So they have no recourse than try to emigrate themselves to other neighboring islands.

Pepe, i know that the only forte you possess is in the area of Haitian bashing. i would, however, have though that you have even vestigial intelligence. your inability to comprehend the simplest of notions disproves that idea. any person with an IQ larger than his shoe size understands the concept that this old fogey expressed. if guys are stealing radios, but have nobody to sell them to, they will cease that activity. firstly, it exposes them to the risk of being assaulted, or worse, by the owner, should they be caught.

they could also face arrest, and incarceration. yet, they realise no return on their effort, because they have no buyer. 10 year old children can understand that simple idea. it is because of people like you that the 4% of GDP for education is a most pressing imperative. go enrol in kindergarten. you might someday be able to understand simple issues that are child´s play to ten year olds.

Hi y'all! just wanted to give you my two cents on this matter. I am a conservative thinker and I believe that every nation has a right to conserve and protect its border using whatever means necessary. When I read these comments, it bring me here to the US/ Mexican border and immigration issues in the US. We (Dominicans) love to treat Haitians as anything other than humans and call them names that we would never tolerate to be called here in the US. When it comes to the treatment we receive here in the US, we want to be treated fairly and would not stand for name calling or else.
All I am saying that, we are hypocrites, we treat Haitians like animals in DR and then come here to the US and demand respectful treatment. Shame on us for being two faced. Most Haitians only want what we all want out of life, to make a living and take care of our families.
Of course reform is needed to maintain a sustainable immigration policy there in DR and even here is the US.
From: United States
I hear all of the calls for deportation of Haitians. Ok, if they are in the DR illegally, then we have to deport them, but I don't want to hear us complaining when US authorities begin to deport illegal Dominicans or their relatives. No complaining then. Deal?
A better approach would be to do a) protect the border in an effective manner and b) allow ONLY legal entry into the country for those who want to come in and work and make a living legally. You would think I am taking about the US immigration policy and not the DR's immigration problem. Right?.
