Gunned down from top left: Jose A. Gonzalez, Omar Antigua, Ruben Soto Hayet, Alex el Pelotero.
NEW YORK. – The Puerto Rican murder convict Jose Figueroa Agosto was taken to the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, from the Guaynabo federal prison for security reasons, San Juan newspaper Primera Hora reports.
In Santo Domingo, seven alleged killers hired by Figueroa to gun down at least five people linked to his money laundering network went on trial today.
Since last week Figueroa’s name figures among the inmates considered for transfer out of that correctional facility based on risks to their own security, as unconfirmed reports refer to the transfer of other members of his ring, also to different federal facilities in the U.S. to serve out their sentence.
On Tuesday the Federal Court in San Juan declined an appeal for a new trial in the murder of Arnaldo Martinez "Nandy el Gruero," for which Figueroa was convicted.
Known in Puerto Rico as "Junior Cápsula," Figueroa sought a new trial claiming he didn’t commit the murder, for which was sentenced to 209 years in prison, and escaped from Guaynabo while serving time.
He also faces another federal case on drug trafficking, an indictment unsealed after his June 17, 2010, arrest in a San Juan residential area, after a high speed chase.

Due to the uncontrolled corruption of the most corrupt gov in the history of DR I'm sure there must be many Figeroa Agostos doing business in DR. Lieonel and his gang have turned DR in to a GATE WAY state and soon into a NARCO state so I can almost guarantee that there are other Drug kingpins. Ofcourse the people who did the real drug moving and people killing are doing business freely so that almost guarantees other Agostos. I'm sure the Lieonel lovers and proud PLD and PRD would prefer that this be silent I for one will continue to point it out every chance I get. Sadly pointing out the corruption is all we have left since no one is going to do anything about it. I love DR I don't take any joy from this it really hurst.

OGNYC very true. We teach people to be corrupt by doing nothing about it. There is no punishment for these criminals and our President is a miserable failure. If we ever do get a real leader I hope they go back and seize all these ill gotten fortunes and punish those responsible severely.

VeronicaDR I agree with you, but the reality is that the arrival of that leader that we Dominicans need is a dream an impossibility. The powerful corrupt groups that are deeply entrenched in DR will quickly eliminate any leader who even thinks about cleaning up corruption. So we are left with the same leaders over and over again. Hipolito Mejia leads in the latest polls, he will simply continue more of the same and those other Figeroa Agostos will continue business as usual. Those of us who love DR will be left to sadely wittness the slow decline of DR into a failed state, its really heart breaking.

@OG,
I would agree with some of your points, even though they seem to render us hopeless.
If there was ever a country that needed a revolution, in true sense of word, that is DR. Sadly, there are no men left who are qualified or who could carry the torch.

You idiots couldn't be more wrong if you tried... That White Party idiot , Papa, stole billions, damn nearly bankrupted the DR, per the IMF. Lionel has returned the DR to solvency. YES , there are problems. Problems caused by that other idiot, G Baby Bush, that have sunk the Western world into crisis. If any country might need a revolution, tis the US... against the supposed business party, the Republicans. They , headed by Baby Bush and his cohort VP, caused the problem. The Dow plummeted to 6650, now doubled under Obama. Now the new deal Republicans are doing their best to cause another Great Depression.

derek you either you are a member of the PLD or you are a fool or you don't read a paper. Either way you lose, how can someone with a working brain and at least a little Dominican blood in him look at DR and just say that there are just some problems. Then you blame it on Bush you must be naturally ignorant cause it just flows or your getting that party money. Rampant corruption, a gate way state for drugs, uncontrolled crime you are saying that these are just some problems and they are the Republican and Bushs fault please keep writing you make my case for someone who just can't be Domincan or loves a party more that his country please keep writing.

glomarexplorer please make up your mind you say you agree with some of my points then you write exactly what I have been saying. You say that I make us sound hopeless then you write that there are no leaders for a revolution. You should reread what I wrote because that's exactly what I said. The leader isn't coming because the corrupt criminals gangs of LIeonel and his people will not allow it. Are you disagreeing whit that? If you are then name the big bosses that have been convicted for corruption under Lieonels government. You seem to be a dreamer if you think someone is going to lead some revolution I guess your waiting for a knight. You should wake up.

Be careful of wishing for revolution...likely to end up with dictatorship. Rather, embrace democracy by creating a new movement, a new party that is completely independent of the old political hacks...currently, it is the political chiefs who decide who leads and when...the people need to take the power back.

I don't know too much about Dominican politics. It all sound pretty confusing to me. I can barely keep up w/US politics. But I thought Leonel was cleaning up DR. I'm constantly reading about drugs being seized and the capture of Figueroa and his woman, wasn't that in DR. I also read about Military being caught doing illegal stuff. Like I read it more and more, so I'm thinking DR is being cleaned up - just slowly, since doing "the right thing" is new to DR's govt. I also "heard" that the old president, b4 Leonel, was really bad. So who do we beleive. Who's done the country good. If the president b4 Leonel was really bad and he's cleaning up his mess, shouldn't we give him a try? I'm just saying. . .
I want to agree with OGNYC & Veronica, then I hear "lets have a revolution" - que hacemos?

Caramia since you are uninformed I will give you a quick course. The gov before this one was corrupt but this gov has reached new levels of corruption. This gov hasn't cleaned up DR it is part
of the problem whatever drugs are seized tons more are being moved per year DR is a Gate Way state for drugs to be moved all over the world. Lieonels government is an accomplice to the trafficking because all of the agencies that are incharge of stopping this are corrupt are for sale.Under this gov the poor are poorer and the rich are richer. No one who is of clear mind and neutral to political party can say I'm wrong. Forget about revolution the people don't seem to have the will because this gov takes advantage of there poverty and quickly give it plates of food or money for alcohol. There no leaders for a revolution because the political class is corrupt every party. This reality brings me pain but it is the reality. Those who say I'm wrong are either part of corruption.

Or just want to hide the reality of DR. If you want Yo find out what DR is watch Nuria or ALicia Ortega or listen to Marino Zapete these reporters will give you the real DR. Not the one that these sympathiesers of Lieonel and his corrupt gov want to paint. The poor in DR are suffering because this gov hates the the poor they want to kill them eliminate them.

Whew! OK OGNYC I hear you loud n clear. But I thought with all the drugs constantly being seized and gov't heads being CAUGHT in corruption things were getting better. With which President leading the country did Quirino (I'm not sure if Im spelling his name right) get caught? Wasn't it under Leonel's? THat would make two big corrupted drug dealing/money laundering individual getting caught and all the little people and govt people too. I mean these things weren't happening 10 yrs ago. Am I wrong?

Caramia you are wrong on multiple levels and it's clear that you don't understand the problem. You talk about two big figures getting caught , do you think that all the drugs they moved they moved without help from the gov. Were are those people, then again it sounds like you think that all the killing and all the drug moving was done buy just them. It also sounds like you are so impressed by by what's been confiscated. That also means that you think that these drug gangs just stop moving drugs once they get some caught. I don't have time to explain the drug game to you , you need to know that tons and tons of drug are moved every year, DR is a GATE WAY state drugs move all over the world targeting Europe and USA. You don't understand DR is a couple of steps away from NARCO state. Ten years ago drugs weren't being moved the way they are now I hope you know that. You are talking about gov that just took out a 250 mil euro lone but they don't have 4% for education. Please inform yourself

Caramia let me explain something else to because I' m shocked by how uninformed you are. When I say that now one has been prosecuted by Lieonels government I mean GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS. But it sound to me as if you think that all this happens without the governments knowledge. if you do I have a bridge in Brooklyn I can sell you if you don't mind the cars.

carmina you have to understand that even though you hear of all these corrupted govt officials getting caught under lieonels rule none get criminally prosecuted, either they get stripped of the rankings or transferred elsewhere. no politician will pass or push for a law that prosecutes corruption because they are afraid that they too will end up being prosecuted some day. so welcome to a failed state my friend where the politicians run the country as they please and buy their votes with a couple of presidentes!! stayed tuned for chapter 2 "the return of the hipo"

jcl_67 you are completely right, carmina needs all the help in order to open her eyes to the real Dr that she doesn't seem to want to accept or she would rather deny. She needs information, you have explained perfectly the mutual impunity and the mutual corruption that links the political class of all parties which unfortunately makes enforcing laws and prosecuting the corrupt impossible . And puts the country and those of us who love it in an impossiblely hopeless position.
