Santo Domingo.- A fugitive wanted by a Swedish court on charges of kidnapping a minor and crimes against the family was arrested yesterday by Police agents assigned to INTERPOL, who rescued a girl and handed her over to the National Childhood and Adolescence Council (CONANI).

The Swedish national Helena Maria Irene Agnvall is accused of taking her 5 year old daughter from her father’s Stockholm residence in 2007, and of illegally bringing the minor to Dominican Republic, where she kept the child in Sosua, Puerto Plata Province (north).

Agnvall was arrested via a warrant issued by a court in Sodertorn, Sweden, where she faces charges of violating that nation’s Penal Code.

The Police said she’ll be repatriated to her country in the next few hours.

Jim

There is an multi-country treaty respecting international kidnapping of children, and the order issued, say, by the Court in Sweden is executory in every country that has signed the treaty.

No ifs, no buts. On the plane.

All governments should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves for this. mothers have a complete and total unrebuked claim to their offspring. mothers do NOT kidnap their children despite phony government claims. foolishness.

She probably made some serious research about how things esp the justice system works (or not) works in DR and thus, decided to hide there hoping she would get away with it! Ha!

Not if the Father is the custodial parent. She was denied custody for a reason. She is a criminal and deserves to be prosecuted on kidnapping charges, convicted and jailed.

My sons mother bailed when he was 8 months old. I had legal custody one week later. A year later he had dual citizenship. When he was 3 we traveled to the U.S. using his U.S. passport.
I had a legal document from his mother giving me permission to travel with him but the D.R. officials never asked to see it. That's how easy it is to kidnap a minor.

If the officials are asleep on the job crimes are commited.

As a Cuban I am ashamed that someone like Vivacuba goes around, putting Cuba in their name, and making such ignorant, intolerant, sexist and xenophobic comments.

She treats children like some sort of private personal property of the mothers, rather than human beings in their own right with their own opinions, feelings, human rights, family, culture, nationality, language and heritage above and beyond that of the superficial whims of their, in some cases, capricious and mentally unfit mothers. Not only that she wants to blame the US for the state of family law throughout the world.
