Santo Domingo.- Enriquillo lake continues its unchecked expanse which is no longer limited to flooded farms in western Bahoruco and Independencia provinces,  where the waters now surround shanties in the town Boca de Cachón, near the manor border crossing at Jimaní, further stoked by the latest downpours.

“For one week that the water began to rise. What’s most recommendable is that they relocate us to a safer place, but no authority approaches us,” said the flood victim Iker Medina, quoted by news source elcaribe.com.do.

Martina Florián points to Boca de Cachón, from where she affirms the water flows to the village Tierra Nueva, three kilometers apart. “Here we don’t sleep peacefully from fear that we’re going to awake drowned one day,” she said with her feet sunk in the mud rising in front of her house, while shooing mosquitoes, a plague growing from the rains.

The usually arid area around Cachón is now swamp, even covering part of the highway to Jimaní with Enriquillo’s hyper-salty water.

Haitiman ,I would hope what you say is true because it is in my country's advantage for Haiti to get better ....the only problem is that Haitians live in a fantasy world and talk big but in the end the same errors are repeated. The main problem in Haiti (and to a lesser extent in DR) is an issue of mentality and lack of culture and education which is difficult to turn around and would take many decades to effect.

Also ,if we weren't affected so much by Haiti's problems I would not even thing about your country but the reality is that Haiti is the biggest problem for DR ,burdening our fragile infrastructure and bringing more uneducated people into our nation (we already have enough!)

So while I wish your vision was true ,your track record makes it unlikely unless you change radically from your failed approach, learn some humility and work hard to fix your nation. Haiti is in intensive care and only radical change will work ,otherwise you will continue to be a burden on the planet!

2)but i am not agree with you when you tell the haitian people lack the culture and education. it's completely wrong! Haiti is an reserve of culture. Don't generalize when you speak about the haitian people, 60% is analphabet but they are respectable. It's they managers of this country who are bad. Believe me no Haitian likes Repub dom than haiti. it is poverty that makes people come to you. But if one day we have men OF QUALITY in the power I assure you that you will have less illegal.
but the haitian people don't bring you only the bad things.
haiti bring you 900 000 000 Dollars by year!
and you have a lot of haitian who employ some dominicans.
You must say the bad things like the good things.
PEPE You personaly in what things the presence of SOME haitians in your country afect you?

PEPE32,
1)it's not HAITIMAN BUT KISKEYAMAN or if you want quisqueyaman. quisqueya is the name of our island IN INDIO. quiskeya ou bohio. the spanish call him HISPANIOLA. I PREFER TELL HAITI our quisquella or bohio. Honnor to the first population of the island.
I consider i am in my island! even your side it's not my country.
You are reason for a point, us haitian people have to change our mentality, and put haiti in first, Whatever the problem we have between us! and doing all for help all haitian to stay at home!

Dude ,REALISM is how you can change things, not fantasy.I would never say DR is very cultured for the country has a long way to go and most Haitians make Dominicans look like denizens of the first world. Reality, acceptance and the will to change all that is wrong is critical, but most of the problems are cultural and that is hard to change without the will and support of a majority of the population.

The island whether you like it or not is La Española but in DR we have more Taino names for towns ,villages ,regions, rivers etc.than Spanish ones while La Republique D´Haiti has French names for almost everything. The overwhelming majority of Taino blood is in the DR population since your people arrived in the late 1700´s to early 1800´s so please don´t lecture us on our Taino ancestors.

You speak about taino then you and your countrymen want to call the island HISPANIOLA. The indians called him bohio or quisquella.
PEPE I am very REALISTIC, HAITI Is a great country and the haitian people a great people.
But unfortunately some Haitian forget that. But we work in Haiti to change the situation even the stateless and the ennemies of my countries make a lot of bad things to reduce or disappear the changes in this country.
