NEW YORK.- New York City Police (NYPD) on Wednesday confirmed the arrest of one the pop music star Antonio Peter de la Rosa’s (Omega) bodyguards, when agents intercepted a Rolls Royce he was driving near St Nicholas avenue and 191st in Upper Manhattan, at 7 a.m. Sunday.
It identified the detainee as Jose Olivo “El Teniente” (the Lieutenant), seizing from him a portion of an unspecified controlled substance and a knife.
The NYPD said Olivo was charged with drug possession and carrying a weapon illegally, adding that there were no further arrests in the case,
Sources close to the merengue bandleader quoted by elnuevodiario.com.do revealed that the police frisked Omega, but released him since they didn’t find anything illegal.

It's pretty bad, but let's not talk like it only happens in the D.R.
Corruption is not limited to one particular country or culture.

Why do you keep referring to him as a "Pop" star
His genre is NOT POP... if anything "Merengue de Mambo" or "Calle" is closer to Hip Hop and Reggaeton if you don't want to call him "Merenguero"
From: Dominican Republic, I dislike all politicians and their afiliated parties... "I simply say it AS IT IS!!"
It's so sad this DR ppl only care about what's going on with this guy. It's like they want him destroyed.
He is of Dominican or Haitian descend just like everyone else in DR.
Leave the freaking guy alone...

A knife?? I mean, really?? A knife?? Exactly what are you going to do with a knife?? I mean if your gonna go to jail for possessing an illegal weapon, let it be a REAL weapon, or something really cool like a bo staff or a blow dart. A knife?? Thats just embarrassing. Trouble loves company.

Not knowing N.Y state laws governing the possession of a knife one must assume the following.
1. Did the knife's blade exceed 2 1/2 inches or are all knives banned in N.Y city ?
2. Was it a dagger type or a plain two sided knife ?
3. Was the knife concealed ?
4. Did Antonio utter the magic words "it's for protection man" ?
5. Did his behavior / actions warrant a search in the first place ?

Not a big story, this happens all the time. Every few months a US rapper gets charged with weapons possession, usually a year to 2 sentence, T.I., Lil Wayne, Ja Rule...
